Just listened to the weekly podcast #325 and towards the end when mentioning what else you've read you mentioned the Damian book and how you didn't like it. As I was reading it I didn't care for it either because I thought the writing was off, Damians dialogue didn't seem right. Then the last page reveal made me go back and reread. After reading it again I think that the Batman who died was Dick Grayson. Pre-death, Damian never called him father or acted as if this Batman was his father but more like the Batman when he was paired up with Dick Grayson. When he's holding the body there's no yelling "Father" plus there is no mention of it being Bruce Waynes funeral. And Ras mentions the Batman lineage which to me implys there has been more than one Batman, not counting temporary fill-ins. So now i'm more interested and will pick up the next issue.
What are your thoughts?

huh...that makes more sense to me, never thought of that - i think i will read #2 also just to see if that's the case, and we know John will continue to read it.

I think you are right about who did and didn't die. It was an okay read but it didn't really impress me overly much. Frankly, I'm not sure why/how it is being published.
Re: Damian Son of the Bat thoughts
I just read this, I had skipped it at first but picked it up at the shop today. I have never particularly cared for Damian as character, which is why I was going to skip the series.
I enjoyed it enough to continue with the series. However it did feel like all set up. Interesting enough to continue with but still not much story really in this issue. I agree with the above thought on what happened in the opening scene. That is one of the reasons I want to continue with the series, it will certainly be interesting to see how Bruce reacts to what Damian has been up to as a result of what happened. I do have a feeling however that yet another Bruce vs. Joker battle (either physically or only mentally) will be the ultimate climax of this series.
I also felt the art was really top notch. Andy Kubert's work is simply stunning to view and this book looks as good and anything he has done of late.
