Final Crisis: Rogue's Revenge

Post by BobBretall »

Geez! Talk about conflicted emotions.....

Kind of like the old joke about watching your mother-in-law drive off a cliff in your new car.....

BEHOLD:
FINAL CRISIS: ROGUES’ REVENGE #1
Written by Geoff Johns
Art and covers by Scott Kolins

<< Bob is an idiot >>

....as I mistook Scott Kollins for Skottie Young (who did Deadpool)!!!

Scott Collins is a good competent artist, I was thinking of someone else whom I thought was not well-suited for mainstream DC heroes....

Scott Collins is JUST FINE....

(Nevermind my previous rant...)

I was going to skip this when it was originally announced, but when they stated it's going to be a three issue oversized mini instead of five issues, I'll pick it up.

....but you buy pretty much everything from DC that is not straight-up horror or a western......

Although, you skipped that Batman book drawn by Whilce Portacio, but had it been written by Geoff Johns, you would have gotten it, I'll bet......

Very true. And that is why I'll be getting those two items. They are mainstream DC titles.

That was the first arc of Batman Confidential which is yet another sort of in and out of continuity title. I've sort of had my fill of those to a degree.

But, yes, if Geoff Johns had written it I would have gotten it. I don't think I've read a single thing he has done at DC that I have disliked.

It is good thing that you skipped that Batman story. It was not Whilce's best work and it was probably Diggle's worst work.

I am with John on Geoff Johns. I have not read one bad story that he has written. He and Morrison are the only two reasons I haven't loss my faith in DC Comics completely.

As for Kolins art, I like him on certain books, like the Flash. I think Brave and the Bold is a bad fit for him. I wished they kept Ordway on the book. That guy should be on a monthly book still.

I am excited about the Flash mini, just wish they could do something about the regular book :)

Don't get me wrong, I love Geoff Johns. I have not read a story of his I didn't like either.

Thus my "conflicted emotions". I know (or am pretty darn sure) I'm going to love the story. But the art is going to leave me wanting more (not because I fundamentally dislike Skottie Young, but because I find his art unsuited, for me, on mainstream super-hero books).

<< *Edit* See....here I am saying Skottie Young, when it is Scott Collins doing the art on the book in question. >>

I love Geoff Johns and Scott Kollins. I am very happy to see Kollins drawing this book. I loved his past Flash work and I am very happy to see him work on the Flash again. He also has done some Countdown recently that I have enjoyed and I really liked when he was doing Marvel Team-up.

I am excited!

I get it on Tuesday, I'll let you know what I think.....did he change his style from what he used on Deadpool? I was seriously underwhelmed by the ?cover? image he did for the Rogue's Revenge solicit.

I never read Deadpool so I don't know. It looks like a cross between Keith Giffen and Jack Kirby to me. The colors on the book were awesome as well. Since you don't like his Flash stuff you probably won't like this.

I thought the art in Countdown #2 was okay. Not bad but not as clean and detailed as I prefer. But that is just a matter of personal taste.

Got Countdown #2, while I would not call the art "awesome" (just my taste, which differs from that of others) it WAS solid competent mainstream art.

I call a "mulligan" on this whole thread anyway, since I'm an idiot and while reading "Scott Collins" my addled brain somehow interpreted it as "Skottie Young".......

Scott Collins is JUST FINE!!!

Sorry.....

Well then I will have to agree with you. I am so glad Skottie Young is not doing Rogues. Some people love his art but it does not work for my eyes. I like the guy but not his art.
