I actually talked to Cameron about this yesterday. He is going to send the 24 extra copies out to random DCBS subscribers that did not order the book along with a flyer for our show. Essentially a "Free Comic Compliments of the ComicBookPage podcast!" kind of thing.Skyhawke wrote:Bob you take the 24 issues of Hero By Night and use those as party of your Christmas gifts this year.

Given the length of the interviews compared to the length of the "plugs" for books, I don't think it's feasible to integrate them into the flow of the episode.Skyhawke wrote:As for the new format I like the interview but I would also agree that I would like the interviews to show up by where the book shows up in previews. I am looking forward to doing submissions again for next month provided my kids don't break my headset again this time.
However, what may be possible is to move the interviews to the end of the episode so that the show can start diving right into the short blurbs. We can insert a short "shout out" in Previews order for each book that will have an interview, and mention the fact that it will have a more extensive interview (and with whom) later on in the show.
Then we can put time-codes in the show notes letting people know where to "dial in" for interviews they want to hear.
Does that sound like a good compromise?
That might work better. I hate to sound like I am trying to tell you how to do your job cause you and John do a great one. It just seem to the interviews at the beginning broke up the flow of the show. Maybe it is because I am used to the way it was and you and John diving right into Previews like we do on Friday nights starting at Dark Horse and working our way back to the indies.JLAFan wrote:Given the length of the interviews compared to the length of the "plugs" for books, I don't think it's feasible to integrate them into the flow of the episode.Skyhawke wrote:As for the new format I like the interview but I would also agree that I would like the interviews to show up by where the book shows up in previews. Not at all! We appreciate the feedback, and love constructive comments on how we can make the shows flow better.Skyhawke wrote: That might work better. It's a very fair comment that having the interviews up front make the start-off too slow.
We'll try out iteration #2 next month.

Doing the interviews at the end should work. I guess the only question I have on that is should they go after the end of the run through Previews and before Bob and I tally up our totals or at the very end?
What we'll probably end up doing is breaking up the recording into the main run through Previews ending on an intro to the first interview, and then record the order totals and episode wrap up stuff. That way I can easily insert the interviews in and grabbing the time codes should be very easy that way.
I may start putting a few second sound bumper before and after the interviews. That is what I do before the "Next Week" bit on the Weekly Comics Spotlight. I considered doing it this time but didn't really have the time to fiddle with it during editing.
What do people think of the idea of having the interviews delineated by bumpers?
Those are good choices Wood. I am really excited about Eternals #1. I think Daniel Acuna's art will fit better on this book than he did on the Flash.Wood wrote:As I say, I haven't listened to the entire episode yet so excuse me if these were covered, but here are a handful of things I WOULD HAVE contributed if bronchitis didn't whoop my (bleep) last week.
1) Red Mass for Mars #1 by Jon Hickman
Hickman is my favorite "new" writer in the business. Nightly News was profound, Pax Romana has been wildly entertaining and the first issue of Transhuman did not disappoint. Red Mass was solicited awhile back and pulled b/c of lack of interest. They resolicited with preview pages this time out and I, for one, am giddy about it.
2) DMZ TPB #5 and Dynamo 5 TPB #2
I'm reading both of these series in trade but only b/c I started late to the party on both and I hate to mix runs by medium. Both are fantastic and Cameron is offering both for 40% off. DMZ is Brian Wood's best work (by far) and Dynamo 5 is Jay Faerber's breakout book; if you like Invincible, I can't see how you wouldn't love Dynamo 5.
3) Eternals #1
Eternals are a cool Kirby creation that has been underused in recent years by Marvel. They're effectively Marvel's answer to the New Gods. They are human-like creations of the Celestials and have god-like powers. Written by the Knaufs and illustrated by Daniel Acuna, I have high hopes for this one.
4) Skaar Son of Hulk #1
Skaar SHOULD be what WWH wasn't. It should continue on the story of the rich world of Sakaar where Greg Pak crafted the best Hulk story of the last 25 years.
5) Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Premier Hardcover 3
I'm giddy about this one folks. I have the first volume sitting on my desk right now and it's fantastic. It's tightly bound, compact, and chock full of up-to-the-minute entries on the Marvel characters, places and times.
