Another good one guys. I'm not reading Iron Man or Brit, but I am reading Batman. Loved the Club of Heroes arc. Mostly due to J.H. Williams artwork. The panel layouts were excellent, especially that one that was in the shape of a Bat (Not sure if that was in 669). Also loved that his art style changed when they were flashing back to the Silver Age. And with Silver Age, I like what Grant Morrison is doing with these Silver Age update stories, in Batman and All Star Superman.
I liked the Brit one-shots, but I passed on the ongoing series since Kirkman wasn't writing it.
It'll be interesting to hear you revisit the series when they eventually solicit the trade. Depending on your review, and if DCBS' price is right, I might even pick it up.
Here's a link to an interview with the new writer, Bruce Brown, by the "old" writer, Robert Kirkman...

... and here's 26 pages from from the Brit TPB, collecting Brit, Brit: Cold Death, and Brit: Red White Black and Blue

I can totally understand that. I was a little skeptical myself about how good a Kirkman title would be without Kirkman writing it. I think that if you didn't know it wasn't Kirkman writing that it wasn't immediately obvious from the comic itself. It read and felt like a Kirkman issue.Lobo wrote:I liked the Brit one-shots, but I passed on the ongoing series since Kirkman wasn't writing it.
Remind us when the trade gets listed and we'll do a quick follow up on the title and see what we think of it at that point. Based on what I've seen so far, I'd recommend the trade, particularly if DCBS has it at a good price.

I have to agree that Grant Morrison does a great job taking stuff from the Silver Age and making it play for a modern audience. His work in All Star Superman is great. I just wish he could get stuff out faster. But, his work is usually worth the wait so I'm not too upset by the delays on All Star Superman.Koete wrote:Another good one guys. I hope that Final Crisis is this good and comes out like clockwork.

I loved this episode. I will agree that those Batman issues need to be read consecutively because there were some moments in it where I wished I had re-read the previous issue.
I'm glad that you guys spotlighted Iron Man. I think a lot of people are overlooking it because "Iron Man is a jerk", or at least he was in Civil War. The first arc by the Knaufs with him as director of SHIELD was cool, it introduced the Mandarin and how he's hiding his rings, and also featured some cooler techno-villains, which are pretty much the only villains Iron Man may ever have now because he is so powerful. It's a good book, and like John said, good, but not great, a middle of the stack read.

I'm becoming increasingly of the opinion that I'll like Iron Man better if I reread it after each arc ends. Aspects of the return of the Mandarin as playing out too slow and subtle for me to fully appreciate while reading the title as it comes out.knightwingbk wrote:I loved this episode. I agree with you that the Mandarin is coming really slowly, but the Roberto de la Torre art blows me away with each issue that it's hard not to read it. It is a little dark though, he could use some less blacks, but I still think it's great.johnmayo wrote:I'm becoming increasingly of the opinion that I'll like Iron Man better if I reread it after each arc ends. The book does look great. I just keep feeling like I'm missing things when I'm reading it while frustrates me. It seems to be a good story but one really paced and geared for the trade instead of the monthly. So, while I'm ejoying the titles, I just think I should be enjoying it more.knightwingbk wrote: I agree with you that the Mandarin is coming really slowly, but the Roberto de la Torre art blows me away with each issue that it's hard not to read it.
