MyComicShop additional weekly discount

Post by TravAzz »

So I'm putting together a chronological Power Girl collection of books. I picked up around $60 worth of books last week at MyComicShop all DC L-Z of course because of the additional discount. A lot of her early appearances are in Justice League so I'm hoping for a DC A-K or Justice League sale soon.

Does anyone else when you are looking for book, get excited about what the possible extra sale on books will be each week? Or is it just me?

I used to get really excited about the additional discount, but my orders to MCS have slowed down dramatically since they redid their pricing policies...now with only an additional 5% off pre-1981 issues, and with a overall pricing engine that is now consistently at or above guide book; MCS has gone from a "no brainer" place to allocate significant dollars to simply "the best back issue merchant" online.

In the last few months I have found quite a few deals on eBay that are demonstrably better than MCS; whereas much of last year that wasn't the case.

They've probably lost $3,000-$4,000 of business from me in 2008 unless they quickly go back to their old pricing methods OR have a really significant sale at least two or three times a year.

It's almost like I wrote the above. My thoughts EXACTLY!!!

I have still been getting recent back issues from MCS for stuff I have missed out on from the past 5-10 years that I want to pick up (mostly indy stuff), but my purchases on silver/bronze stuff from pre-1981 have slowed dramatically since they redid their pricing & discounts.

I'd estimate (conservatively) that I'll spend $1000-$2000 less @ MCS in 2008 because of this.

I think my wife talked Buddy Saunders into re-doing his pricing ;)

An amendment to the above.....

If I was in the market for Marvel/DC books that came out after 1981, I'd still be REALLY excited by the sales. I just have 99% of those books that I want, so it does not do too much for me.

Other collectors with a less extensive Marvel/DC horde can still do very well at MCS.

Tell me something...

Do they usually take forever to ship?

I've been waiting for about a month now for an order and I have been getting shippments from other places within 2 weeks from the US...

No, they usually ship within a week or so. You should follow up on the order and see i there is a problem. (Of course, if there is a problem then they should have contacted you...)

Shaper...sometimes if enough items from your order aren't in stock when they check inventory, they will cancel your order and have you resubmit, particularly if it breaks the threshold for free shipping.

Not sure if that's what happened here, but you should contact them as John suggested.

I've placed six orders with them and, each time, I have gotten an email within a business day or two saying that all of my requests have been "checked in" [meaning they made sure the issues were available in the condition requested] and then the shipment goes out a few days later.

Yeah, I've never really had a problem with shipping either. Usually fairly quick.

Did you ever give them a call? I'd be interested in the response just in case I run into this in the future.
