Overground Comic Podcast

Post by tehkeizer »

I know its been a while since it came out, but

i really enjoyed that podcast. the format worked really well for me. i'm not sure how often it could be done with different small companies.

However, i would love to see that same format done on past mini series or story arcs, especially ones that we probably havent read, or dont remember too well. and i say story arcs instead of trades because i really enjoyed the book by book reaction which i think would be missed if you were just reacting to a trade.

Just my 2 cents on something i enjoyed.

I've considered doing that sort of format but on an issue by issue or episode by episode basis for some other stuff. The Overground Comics was a fun episode to do but a little time consuming.

Are there particular story arcs you have in mind? Sam and I have discussed a few things for Back Issue Spotlights with one slated for as soon as I can get caught up on my weekly reading enough to find the time to do the reading for it.

I dont have anything specific in mind, but i was thinking stuff from the 70's, 80's, 90's. Stuff maybe like the first secret wars, or Marvel vs. DC crossover, or stuff like that. I'm sure others would have better reelections of story arcs from around that era. I really dont, maybe thats why i'd like to hear it. Going that far back too, you wouldnt really have to worry about "spoilers" either, you could talk about all the stories and twists.

Most of that sounds like potential Back Issue Spotlight episodes. I've talked with Sam about the doing an episode on first Secret Wars with the blocker being me finding time to re-read the series. We've got another in the plans before it which I'm looking forward to doing.

The Marvel vs DC and Amalgam titles would be fun. JLA/Avengers is also high on my list to do.

For Back Issue Spotlights, spoilers are discussion but the goal is to encourage people to read the material, not to replace the reading experience. So the operating premise is people either have read the material or are deciding if they want to read it. Either way, to discuss older material, you kind of need to give story details and the context of when the series was released.

I want to do more of these kinds of episodes, both solo and with other people but they can be a bit time consuming. Once I can find the time, they will get put on the schedule.

I enjoyed the format of the Overground Comics Podcast. I have also read most of what Overground has released so far. Absent Captain is the best of the bunch in my eyes. I'm continuing to read that title along with HeroCorp Knights, which is a cool concept that hasn't pulled together quite yet but I'm enjoying it. Plus Ultra isn't bad but don't think I will continue with that one, or Graduate, or America. Have not checked out Tinker. Not a bad effort from John Hughes. If he tightens a few things up and maybe cuts down a few titles and concentrates on four or so of them he might be on to something.
