Mike's Week Reads and Ranks

Post by comicm »

I thought I would post my weekly reads every week on this thread. I am a long time listener of the show and never miss an episode. I buy roughly about the same amount of comics as John if not more but don't necessary read them all right away because I get so much. I have a goal of trying to read at least 50 comics a week but usually fall short on time because of work and the three podcasts I do. I love listening to the show as I usually buy all of the books discussed and don't get spoiled on the books. I sometimes find some gems in the Previews call that I might have missed. I miss being a part of the Friday Previews call as it was great time to talk about the issues

Here is my first entry

agree the middle 2 issues were weaker than #1 (an A+ read) and #4, glad to see it is becoming a continuing series

Yeah I think Todd is a brilliant book. I love the art and the story. It is such a strange combination that reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite as a horror movie.

No 2's or 1's? Or are you just reporting what you think is a 3 or higher.

I did not read anything bad so there are no 2s or 1s. Very seldom to I rate things that low unless I don't enjoy them.

Uber 2/5?

It's down in my stack. I'll have to read it next to see what gives. I had high expectations for the series so I hope I like it more than you did.

ok, So I read Uber #0 and I would probably give it a 3/5 but I can totally see a 2/5 as well. The story jumps around a lot especially in the beginning. For the first half of the book I really didn't know who this story was about. The second half introduces us more fully to the Ubers and I got a better idea of what direction this story is going to go. The Caanan White art is average at best.

I'm hopeful that it gets better as I have already pre-ordered the first few issues.

I'd give it a low 4/5, but I liked the art, which contributed to pushing it higher than a "3".

I found the story to be all over the place. The art was wonderful but for me story matters more. I can read a good story with bad art but not vice versa (I am weird that way). Absolutely found no flow in the story.

Your story first angle isn't weird at all. I'm kinda the same way.

I love how the three of us all had a little different take on the same book. You guys seem to like the art a lot more than I did but Bob and I appeared to enjoy the story more than Mike. That's what I love about comics.

I guess I was really looking forward to this and was disappointed. I get Crossed Badlands, Fashion Beast, Ferals, Night of the Living Dead and Caligula and love those. I thought this would be another but I did not feel the story.

Different tastes. Except for Fashion Beast, I don't care for any of those other Avatar titles. I didn't have a problem with the story flow in Uber.

Just how far behind on your reading are you?

Those were some fun Legion issues. I loved that era of the Legion.
