Waiting for the Trade

Post by Skyhawke »

If you buy certain (or all) titles in trades only. How do you remember you want to buy that trade? I find that I think I'll remember to buy the title in a trade but then I forget and before I know it, I don't bother getting it anymore because it must of not been that important in the first place.

I do buy certain books in trade, like Fables, Jack of Fables, Hellboy, and DMZ, to name a few. How do I remember them? First, I might just preorder them if I think my list is light. Second, if I don't preorder them, I put them on my Amazon list. Since I am a hardcore comic book fan, I keep track of trades/ hardcovers I don't pre-order so that if I have enough funds or just want to buy a trade, I know what to buy. It is the same with DVDs or Books. I don't necessary have to get it the first week it comes out.

Of course, there are trades that I have never gotten that I want to get. For example is Dark Tower. I read the first issue and liked it, told myself I wait for the trade but never got it.

The sad thing is that I sometimes have that problem with "monthly" comics...

I only get two titles in trade format only and I have put them on my pull list at my LCS. So I am lucky I do not have to try to remember to order them.

I don't normally get trades and only purchase monthlies with the exception of Y the Last Mand and DMZ. I never forgot to order those because I am very thourogh going through previews and love those series so it is hard to forget about them.

Also it is easier to remember something that is off an ongoing title then a trade that might just be a mini.

That's kinda happening right now with me on the Dark Tower series that Marvel is doing. Even though I still get the monthlies, I don't think I even read them and I get the HC's when they come out to read. I do read Walking Dead only in trades and I'm not caught up on that series.

I got the monthlies of the 1st Dark Tower mini, but the HC was so nice that I decided against buying any of the monthlies of any subsequent minis, I'll only buy this as the HCs moving forward...

I buy lots of trades and don't use any particular way of tracking which books I'm following. I usually just remember if I want it when I see the solicit and can always check my comicbookdb collection page or turn around from my computer to check the trade shelf and see what I have already.

The most difficult thing to keep track of is the Marvel trades as so many of them (but not all!) are released first as Premiere Hardcovers. I've been pretty good with it so far, but I missed ordering the softcover for X-Factor vol. 3. Doesn't happen to me too often though.
