Wizard World Chicago rundown

Post by TravAzz »

So I finally can get around to posting these pics and talking about Wizard World Chicago. I had a blast all 4 days at the con. This was my first convention where I went more for commissions and go to Artist's Alley. I got ahold of Katie, Buzz, and Kristen Allen before the show and got to pick up my pieces from them. They all turned out AMAZING! I picked up my commission from Katie on Thursday night, and her husband was very reluctant to let it go. After a little coaxing and then pleading, he finally caved in. Katie and her husband were both so nice and completely awesome.

I meet Buzz on Friday and he told me to come back because he was finishing up the inks. Buzz is awesome too, his piece was far more detailed than I expected. And that's a good thing, he really hooked me up. I also got to meet Uncle Sal on Friday. He signed an Atomika 9 for me, and also signed my Absolute Kingdom Come because he is Captain Marvel. Uncle Sal is a classy guy. I went up to Mike Norton on Saturday and talked to him for awhile. His commission list was full, so I had to pass this year. And then finally I ran into Pants. It was funny because both Pants and I were looking through $1 stock and he started talking to the vendor. While he was talking, I instantly recognized his voice and we started talking. Pants was extremely nice and very interested in what I was looking for at the show. It was so cool meeting all my online friends and finally putting faces with a names.

I got Ethan Van Sciver to do a quick head sketch in my Sinestro Corps War bound book. He also told me to email him about a future commission for Mid-Ohio later this year. He was really interested in the bound book, and I got to talk to him about it for a few minutes. David Peterson was another class act. It was finally nice to talk to him about Mouse Guard.

I got everything done I wanted to this year other than meet Johns. He left early and couldn't make it to the signing, so hopefully next year. I also wanted a sketch from Humberto Ramos, but he was just slammed all 3 days. While he was at a panel, I got a chance to talk to his wife for awhile. She gave me their information for a future commission and to get some Spider-Man original art. The final commission I got was Irredeemable Ant-Man & Mary Jane from Phil Hestor. He didn't get it completed for the convention and told me he didn't want to "half (bleep) it" and would mail it to me later.

I went to 2 of the VIP signings on Saturday, Todd McFarlane and Alex Ross. I didn't get a chance to talk to Todd much, but he was surprisingly nice. I really thought the prick Todd McFarlane was going to show up. When I got up to Alex, I told him Uncle Sal was doing a great job and he definitely needed a raise. He then looked at me kinda weird and laughed saying he'd think about it.

I picked up 13 Amazing Spider-Man's, now I only need 36 to finish off the run. My best deal of the weekend was I bought the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus and received the Amazing Fantasy Omnibus for FREE!!!

Here are pics of all the commissions I had done at the show. I think I did a pretty decent job considering it was my first attempt into the hobby.

I'm all for posting convention sketches here but I'd like to request that we keep things appropriate for all ages.

As such, I've edited your post above, TravAzz, from showing the Kristen "Foxy" Allen sketch to a link to it. That was if people want to see it they can but they have to click off the Comic Book Page website to go see it.

Please don't take any offense at this. I've worked at places were people could get fired for viewing inappropriate material. As such, I'd like to keep the forum work friendly. I hope you understand.

I apologize for the post. I completely understand the rules, and honestly wasn't trying to break any of them. Just trying to show all my commissions.

Not a problem. I just want to be a bit conservative in this respect.

Out of all of the sketches, the Power Girl by Buzz is the one I like best. The Mary Jane/Black Cat by Katie Cook is also very nice.
