Titans #5 - done-in-one cancelled

Post by BobBretall »

We recommended Titans #5 for a special discount last month, it was solicited as a nice "done in one" story focusing on some relationships between folks on the team. The thought was it might be a good way to sample the title.

Apparently that idea didn't go over too well, #5 has been resolicited this month as the following:
TITANS #5
Written by Judd Winick
Art by Julian Lopez & Prentis Rollins
Cover by Joe Benitez
When Raven's half-brothers return to claim her and unite Trigon's bloodline, Raven must choose which ties are stronger: the family she was born to, or the new family she has made.
Resolicit • On sale September 24 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

So, no "done in one", we won't be seeking to roll over the special discount to this month's book.

Thanks for the update, despite my initial misgivings after the first two issues, I was almost thinking of adding #5 to my order and talking myself into sticking with the book a little longer to see if there was something salvageable here.

And I see it's a different art team than was originally solicited for #5. Although with the change in cover artist, I believe I have detected a pattern. Apparently you draw an issue or three of interiors and then move on to the cover. Definitely looks to be a title without any leadership or planning going on.

I wonder if the done in one story will be in issue #6 then. Either way, I agree with not rolling over the discount.

I read Titans #3 last night and it was better than the first two but still has a lot of room for improvement. Part of my problem with the title is that the art style isn't clicking with me. It isn't bad but it just doesn't "fit" the book for me. Overall, I'm enjoying the title but consider it a far cry from the classic Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans.

As I read this month's DC solicitations, I kept shaking my head. How can the writer/ editor not realized in advance that they need an extra issue to complete the story arc? How many artists does it take to finish one story arc? I mean I heard of story arcs being extended before, but not where they had to cancel an issue and then resolicit the issue.

With this and another creative team on the Flash (might as well call it the book "Flash Classified"), and another one shot for an eight issue double-sized mini-series, I am really get frustrated with DC Comics. It seems that the good comics that they do publish seems to be the exception not the rule.

I read the first two issues of the new "Rann War" mini and thought they were ok, but I don't like it enough where I think it deserves one-shot spin-offs. And Reign in Hell looks like Shadowpact II.

I think I am going to be more selective of which DC Comics I buy until I feel that they have their act together. I have been burn too many times by them over the past year. Instead I am going to add back some of the Marvel titles I dropped to my DCBS list.

And looking at the sales for May, I feel that DC is not only hurting themselves but the whole industry.

Sorry for the rant, but I couldn't help it.
