Re: World's Largest Private Comics Collection (for now) - Ma
Here are a few more pics from Saturday that I found up on Facebook. The group from the UCI (University of California, Irvine) Doctor Who club clutching some of their free comics! http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k555/bbretall/Guinness/UCIDrWhoClub2.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k555/bbr...

Re: World's Largest Private Comics Collection (for now) - Ma
Here are a lot more pictures of the event, including some pictures up in my comic room, taken by one of the guys (Michael Hamersky) who helped audit the collection. He did a very thorough job, pulling out several boxes & counting the contents as well as pulling random issues out of the database ...

Re: Marvel does it again
I used to have the compulsion to go along with all the events at Marvel so I didn't "miss anything" important. Fear Itself caused me to re-evaluate this position and I have skipped all events from both publishers since. To be honest it's been kind of refreshing. I am able to freely skip a...

Re: Marvel does it again
Recent solicit for the upcoming INFINITY issue #1 shows us it is a $4.99 book ($2.99 DCBS). That price, recently, has become the norm for "special" issues from both Marvel and DC. The issues at that price will usually have a few extra pages of story as well as perhaps throwing in a reprin...

Whew!!! It's over now...... Now it's a matter of gathering up the evidence, witness statements, and pulling together the film/photographic evidence and sending it off to Guinness. The total # of comics was: 89,613 http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k555/bbretall/Guinness/IMG_5858.jpg http://i1115.p...

Re: New in your Silver/Bronze Age Collection
Picked these up at the Long Beach Comic Expo this weekend....... http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k555/bbretall/Comics/FantasticFour-002.jpg Low-ish grade, has tape on the spine in several spots, but still G or G-. Looks fairly solid other than the tape. But heck, it's FF#2 http://i1115.photobuck...

Re: Mike's Week Reads and Ranks
I guess I was really looking forward to this and was disappointed. I get Crossed Badlands, Fashion Beast, Ferals, Night of the Living Dead and Caligula and love those. I thought this would be another but I did not feel the story. Different tastes. Except for Fashion Beast, I don't care for any of t...

Re: Mike's Week Reads and Ranks
ok, So I read Uber #0 and I would probably give it a 3/5 but I can totally see a 2/5 as well. The story jumps around a lot especially in the beginning. For the first half of the book I really didn't know who this story was about. The second half introduces us more fully to the Ubers and I got a bet...

Re: Free Comic Book Day! whatcha gettin...
I was very happy today when I was in line with my purchases at a local shop here in Southern California (Nuclear Comics). I was behind a guy in line with 2 young sons, the oldest was 10. They had free comics & were also buying comics. He told me they had gotten into comics at last year’s FCBD an...

I always appreciated the amount of time and effort that Bob (and John) put in on a weekly basis for the show. I'd like to publicly acknowledge my appreciation of the listeners & people who post to the forums. I'd also like to acknowledge John, who has always put in a tremendous amount of effort...

Re: Disappointing DCBS box
Recently there has been a variant cover or two they could not get for me. I got an email informing me that was the case and asking if I'd like the regular cover. Since the contents are more important to me than the cover, that was fine. But I can understand if it was the specific cover someone was ...

Re: Disappointing DCBS box
When I sent them an e-mail about them they told me I was SOL. Now THAT is what I call great customer service. :D I've never gotten that sort of email from DCBS. I've always found them to be friendly and helpful. I was, of course paraphrasing. The actual e-mail was very diplomatic, something l...
