OK, I was looking forward to this until I saw the Roger Ebert review.....

I've read the Jonah Hex comics, which are GREAT.

Sounds like Hollywood has F***'d up yet ANOTHER comic book property if the summary of the plot is anywhere close to accurate.

Sounds like a wait for DVD. I'll still see it but not for awhile!

On the local news today, they were talking about Hex coming out today. And then they stated "starring John Malkovich and Meghan Fox" never once actually mention Brolin who is playing the title character!! Another bad sign!!

Not so convinces that's a bad sign over the fact that local news people are stupid douchebags. (e.g., only mentioning names they have heard of)

OK, I saw Jonah Hex. It was an entertaining enough movie as long as you don't particularly expect it to be like the Jonah Hex comic. At least they threw us a bone and had Jonah bring in a few guys for bounty at the beginning, even though we didn't get to see him hunt them down.

Also, really violent for a PG-13. There were 100s of people killed, most in big explosions, but probably a good 50 getting shot/stabbed.

Hollywood elements:
* They had to "jazz up" Jonah and give him the supernatural power to touch dead guys and bring them back to life so he can interrogate them.

* As in every Hollywood adaptation of a comic, the bad guy (in this case Quentin Turnbull) just HAS to be complicit in the origin of the hero. In this case QT kills Jonah's family in front of him then brands his face.

* We could have done without the giant "super cannon" (invented by Eli Whitney after he was done inventing the cotton gin). AT LEAST we didn't get full-on mechanical spiders like in Wild Wild West.

By the way:
I saw the movie with my wife. When it was over, I mentioned some of the points above & my wife was surprised "You mean Hex does NOT have the power to talk to the dead?" Nope. He's just a western bounty hunter, albiet a really bad-(bleep) one.

So, people coming out of the movie will just naturally assume this is a part of the comic book character's legacy.

AND even if the movie does crappy, 10 times as many people will probably be exposed to the movie than have read the comics.

Nice of you to pitch in. Heard the movie made 5.1 mil this weekend. Thats a big disappointment.

Why does Hollywood feel the need to steampunk western films? If it isn't "Unforgiven" enough for them then it seems they have to put steampunk/fantasy element into instead.

Toning this down from an "R" to a PG-13 and then opening on the same weekend as Toy Story 3 was a Hollywood recipe for disaster.

The trailers made me really not want to see this, and Nicki can't stand Megan Fox so it wasn't going to be a date movie- Will wait for Net Flicks or it to be in the sale bins.

Just watched the Green Hornet trailer- so close but yet so far. The costumes, weapons, Black Beauty, logo, garage with flipping BB car restraints, etc. look amazing, but then there's Seth Rogan as Brit Reid. He's lost A LOT of weight, but he's still goofy (bleep) Seth.

Another I'll wait to watch at home when nothing else is on. If Hollywood would get these movies right I'd go see them over and over in the theater (saw the last two Batman movies and the first Spiderman movie at least 3 times each in the theater, while only seeing Superman Returns, Judge Dredd, Ghost Rider, or Wolverine in a theater once).

For what it was, it was a good movie. Just lots of killing, not much plot, over the top acting and lots more killing!! It won't win an oscars but it's a good little action movie!
