I am new to the Comic Book page world. I am pillaging the the old podcasts and listening to this one now. I don't collect the figures (need to keep my wife) but find it interesting. Did you do any more on this topic? I would certainly enjoy listening to more if you guys put together another. I do enjoy the pictures that you post as well. Great job. Thanks.
P.S. From your photos, it looks like you finished Fin Fang Foom I see (at least it looks like him next to Galactus).

Yeah, Bob was a guest on the first World of Toys podcast which was originally recorded for a regular episode of Comic Geek Speak. They later edited out parts of the original conversation and re-used it for the initial episode of the World of Toys spin-off podcast.deadpool wrote:LA Rabbit wrote:I am new to the Comic Book page world. Personally, I've scales way back on my action figure purchasing. I still get some but having accumulated around 1,000 of them, space has become something of an issue. Some of my recent purchases include the Black Vulcan/Apache Chief/Samurai set and the Paul Kirk Manhunter figure from the History of the DC Universe Series 1 set from DC Direct. If I see the Earth-2 Robin, I'll probably pick that up.

I forswore action figures for the lucrative world of statue collecting. I'm a sucker for a good Ame-Comi or Women of the DCU statue, or the great stuff Kotobukiya and Revoltech put out.
The beautiful thing is that I buy fewer of them, so there's less clutter, but I tend to enjoy them more than my actual figures. Something about a really nice sculpt of a character you love in your personal trophy case that's just fun, eh?

I used to be way more into the action figure collecting than I am now. Mostly space concerns, as I get more of the busts & statues and prefer to use the space for them instead of the action figs. I just put some more figs away today to make more room for the Kotobukiya busts I picked up at the Anaheim con for a steal of a price.
Anyway, I would consider myself somewhat of an authority on busts & statues, so can field questions there. Not so much any more on current action figures.
Action figure observation:
* Action figures now regularly cost in the $12-$18 range. Ones for the "mass market" frequently have "Chase" figure that you either need to be really luck to find in a store or be will to pay $30, $40, or more from a "scalper". At those prices, it's not that much more expensive to pick up some nice statues or busts.

Re: Toys and Collectibles 8/29/08
I used to do all the "build-a-figs". I completed the following (which means I have all the figures that went with these parts too!):LA Rabbit wrote: P.S. From your photos, it looks like you finished Fin Fang Foom I see (at least it looks like him next to Galactus).
Marvel
* Annihilus
* Apocalypse
* Brood Queen
* Fin Fang Foom
* Galactus
* Giant-Man
* Mojo
* MODOK
* Onslaught
* Red Hulk
* Ronan the Accuser
* Sentinel
DC
* Ares
* Atom Smasher
* Despero
* Gorilla Grodd
* Kalibak
* Solomon Grundy
Indie
* Monkeyman
* Pitt
The problem was that it was becoming increasingly difficult/expensive to collect all the figures necessary to build the "bigger figure". It always seemed like one or 2 of the figs in the set were short packed or scooped up by the toy scalpers who buy things up from retail outlets for resale at jacked up prices. I was finding it not unusual to have to spend $120-$150 to get all the figures in a single "Wave".
For that kind of $$ I can buy a really nice Bowen statue.

This is pretty much my rationale as well. Plus my wife gets into it more when we're flipping through Previews and one catches her eye.BobBretall wrote: * Action figures now regularly cost in the $12-$18 range.
