I know a few people weren't to happy about the choice of Mera in BN6 becoming a Red lantern

But recently i have been reading some older Aquaman stories and i gotta say when Aquamans and Meras son dies, she gets PISSED! and not a her sons Murderer Black Manta, but a blind rage at Aquaman and blames his "Weak human Genes" for the death of her son, she is commited to a Atlantis Asylum and later tries to kill him. this anger continues to "One Year Later" only a few years ago

So to be honest i don't blame johns for picking her for rage. but there is also another reason

Look at who is picked.
Green=Hal Jordan= Green Lantern
Orange=Lex Luthor= Superman
Sapphire=Diana Prince= Wonder Woman
Indigo= Ray Palmer= Atom
Blue =Barry Allen=Flash
Yellow= Scarecrow= Batman
Red= Mera= Aquaman

see what i'm getting at, each of these lanterns represents a different part of the DCU so while say "Bane" (just for example) may be a good choice for rage. there was actually a rhyme for the reason

Wow that is pretty good point, I never even thought about that. Geoff has the DC Universe big 7 represented without being real blatant about it.

Yep. There's a ton of Mera-based stories where instead of being the loving wife/concubine/girlfriend of poor Arthur, she's actually quite cruel to the guy.

No wonder he shacked up with Dolphin for a spell there.

Redheads...can't trust em! :)

Neat.

Mera has been one of my favorite characters in BN. Granted, I only remember her from Aquaman comics in the 70s and early 80s, but the choice to make her the avatar of rage hasn't bothered me at all.

I'm at the point that I'm expecting Mera to star in an Aquawoman series after Blackest Night. They have really done a great job re-establishing the character in that series.

I think we'll see her in the Brightest Day ongoing then if she's still going strong after that we'll see a series
