Several months ago (before Christmas), MCS changed their pricing engine so that pretty much all the books were priced at guide (less the weekly discount).

This was a big change for me, as I had been used to there being a variety of older books in the lower (VG & F) grades that I collect that were priced quite a bit below guide.

Well, I was poking around today, and noticed some books that were back priced WAY below guide.

1st ones I noticed were Hulk #115 & 119. These were priced as follows:
#115 $5.40 F (Guide has this as $15 in F)
#119 $4.32 F (Guide has this as $12 in F)

Seeing this, I poked around for other series I am actively collecting. I found a run of Tales To Astonish (#61-69) that were $12.54 in VG (whereas Guide on these is $22 in VG).

Looks like the old pricing is back in various isolated places, but that's fine with me! Gives me stuff to dig around for!

I ended up placing a $320 order (55 total books) and all the books were about 1/3 to 1/2 of guide!!! These were all books from the 60s, and I got them for about $6 each!

Basically, I took the money I would have spent at Wizard World LA this weekend, and spent it on-line on a bunch of cool books instead. The added benefit is that Gareb Shamus gets none of my money!

And even better, I told my wife about what I spent, and she said, "You work hard, you deserve to buy yourself stuff that you want."

I'm a lucky man!

SWEET! Bob, thanks for posting this. As you know I too have been really bummed about MCS and it's "new" pricing engine. I'll have to search around the site this weekend to see if anything I've been looking for is now priced low enough to make it a no brainer.

Bob...you are 100% right, and it looks like there may be even better bargains than ever for a patient buyer willing to search around the site. It seems to me that MCS has instituted a new pricing engine, not dissimilar to Mile High whereby they discount more as the number of issues in stock increase. Last night I saw several comics I've been eyeing for 50%-60% off GUIDE at VF or better on the site, which hasn't been the case in months.

Not sure if MCS will tweak the pricing engine to correct some of these monster discounts, but I'm going to place a big order today just in case they are working on it!

Exactly my thinking when I laid down that $320 order.....wanted to get the books while the getting was good!

It's funny how things go in cycles. I have been on a relative buying hiatus from back issues because of the MCS discount change and, for whatever reason, I haven't been having much luck on eBay.

And then, this weekend, you turn me onto the MCS pricing and it reignites my interest there and, coincidentally, I found two online stores on eBay offering perfect sets that are filling in runs for me at great prices. Add to that the Wild Pig sale in two weeks and I'm back better than ever!

Actually i noticed they are getting quicker with thier shipping as well since I got something from them in about 3 weeks instead about 5 last time.

OK, so across 3 orders in the last week, I have gone bat-(bleep) crazy on the reinstatement of the lower pricing. I was getting some of these books for about 25% of guide.

I knew it was bad when I was snatching up huge runs of books and I'd get to one that was "only" 50% off guide and think, "Hey, what a crappy price, I'm not getting that one!"

Anyway, I am blessed in that my wife is OK with the $$$ I dropped. Basically, I'm going to buy these all at some point eventually, so I may as well get them while the prices are low. I suspect that 60s books are not going to be dropping in price as time goes on......
