Early June Solicitations

I think I haven't been this excited about DC solicitations in a long-time. I am pretty much excited about the new Batman family line of title (with the exception of the Outsiders). I was a bit surprised that Detective and Streets have back-up features (and are $3.99), but they both look too good to pass up.

As for the Superman titles - Green Lantern v Superman. I only wish that Gary Frank was doing the interior art and not just the cover for this issue.

Boy, all DC needed to do to expand the "Batman" line of titles was to allegedly kill off Batman.......

I guess they did the same thing when they temporarily killed off Superman.

Chris - I was shocked that you didn't call dibs last week when the book was first announced

This is going to be a great book. While I had mixed feelings on Final Crisis, I thought Morrison's Batman run was some of the best Batman comics I ever read. With Morrison back on Batman and Dini doing two Batman titles, it is the best time to be a Batman fan.

I also think Winick's Batman could be very good. I really enjoyed his first run on Batman.

The only question... who will be Batman? I am hoping that it is Richard (Dick) and not Jason or Tim.

I thought that too, but they did cancel three books and they used to have a lot more Batfamily titles when Batgirl and Gotham Central was published.

I am not saying they don't have too many Bat titles, they do. But it seems that both Marvel and DC goes through this cycle with the Batman, Superman, Spider-man, and X-Men titles where they expand and then contract and then expand again.

and Wednesday's Comics I am sure DC is going to be taking back more Market Share. At least I hope so.

And I wholeheartedly agree. I loved every issue of Morrison's Batman run and can't wait to read more. And Quitely doing the art on half his run just makes me more pumped.

By my count they canceled 3 (Nightwing / Robin / Birds of Prey) and added 4 (Batman&Robin / Red Robin / Gotham City Sirens / Batman Streets of Gotham) for a net gain of 1.

Back when Gotham Central was being published, how many simultaneous bat-titles were out there? With the new solicits we'll have 8, that seems like a high-water mark, but maybe there were 9+ at some point in time.

...and, let me point out again that I was playing the "irony card" in that there are 8 "Batman family" titles being published just a few months after DC ostensibly killed Batman, none of them actually featuring the "real" Batman (well I suppose Confidential could still be telling past stories of Bruce Wayne until the DC file cabinets are emptied of inventory stories).

I was not too enthused by Morrison's Batman. Half of them I thought were brilliant and half were just as confusing to me as FC.

I'm hoping that the team-up with Quitely will make Batman & Robin a LOT more like All-Star Superman than any of Morrison's other more inaccessible works of late.

I agree with you that it is funny that they have gone back to almost dozen of Bat-family titles after Batman "died". And the amount of Bat-titles they have is as high as their high watermark back in 2003 where they had 8 in continuity titles as well:

Batman
Detective
Batgirl
Birds of Prey
Nightwing
Robin
Gotham Central
Batman: Gotham Knights

Plus a whole bunch of minis and appearances in JLA and Outsiders. I agree that 8 is bit much, but the Bat-family titles sells well. I rather DC do this then expand the "Titans" line like they did, which to me was a horrible mistake.
