I'm thinking about getting a new reading chair. The one I've got gets a bit uncomfortable after an hour or two. Does anybody have any suggestions?

What is the style you favor? Where will you put it? I have 3 I read in:

1. Office chair at the desk
2. Leather recliner in the living room
3. Metal chair from the 50's on the deck

The metal one isn't comfortable for long periods, but the other 2 are.

For pure comfort, nothing beats a nice leather recliner, imo.

I'd go with the recliner. The couch in my comics room has recliner elements on both ends, & I usually read there.

A recliner sounds good.

I have a chair in my comic book room, but I really like to read upstairs at the small reading area we have. It gets great sunlight.

I got me a leather lazy boy. If a book is extra boring I just lay back and take a nap!!

I actually prefer to read comics spread out on the bed. Maybe if I had a nice study with lots of leather and dark wood I would change my habits.

Something along the lines of a recliner.

I need something I can comfortable sit in for hours at a time while I read.

I used to read in the recliner that sit in while I watch television. A few years back that chair broke and I replaced it with a newer one. I then rearranged my living room when I got the television projector. Between than and the going backlog of comics to read, I ended up moving my comic book reading into a different room. That room has an armchair of moderate comfort which it what I'm planning on replacing. I don't want to spend too much but I need something better than the current chair.

This is a bit inside-baseball for those non-austinites, but here goes.

You might start by working the various thrift, antique and furniture stores along Burnet road between medical and 183. You can occasionally run into a good deal there -- we got a great chair for our office at a place along there.

Then there's Ikea and Eurway -- though I doubt you'll have a harder time finding really comfortable stuff there.

And Craigslist -- we've had good luck moving furniture there (older stuff we just want to get rid of), but never bought anything.

If you're still stuck, PM me. I love my leather recliner, but it's too big for our house and we'd like to replace it with something smaller. I bought it for my north side apartment and it doesn't do as well in our central post-war home.

I prefer anything I can lay down on--so a recliner or couch.

Interesting but out of my price range. And it looks like it would make for a really nice computer/desk chair but maybe not the ideal reading chair.

How about a replica of Captain Kirk's captain's chair?

Diamond Select Toys will be offering the chair soon. If I had the money to burn I would so be getting one of these. It doesn't look comfortable but it has cool sound effects and lights up. [WebWiz20]

Actually, if I we selling such a chair, I'd build a universal remote control into the armrest controls...
