Should the Previews Spotlight episodes continue?

Given the drop in participation on recent Previews Spotlight episodes, I'm debating if the Previews Spotlight episodes should continue. Please vote in the poll so we can see how much interest there is or isn't for the episodes continuing.

Also, please post any comments or thoughts you have on if the Previews Spotlight episodes should continue or if there is a change of the format of it that might work better.

I do like to hear what's coming out in the world of comics. I still have a small interest in Marvel and Image. TMNT will always have a spot on my list. I do normally skip DC and just listen to all the other pics but I know most of those listeners love the stories of why some still collect this or that. I am in my sports dad era and that makes sending in clips hard but I'll continue to send them in as much as I can.

I truly enjoy the preview Spotlight episodes. It is one of a few types of episodes that got me into listening to the comic book page podcast. Hearing everyone’s perspectives and interests that are all slightly different in tastes is what makes this community great. we all have our unique perspective and likes on the genres in the industry. I do wish there was more participation because I know there are a lot more listeners who are reading comics that are not submitting their picks and I wish I knew how to fix this.

I think one of the things that makes this series so important is that the listeners get to chime in and talk about the comics that they are interested in and what they are reading. In that same light, one thing that could help potentially keep this podcast episode series alive would be if it were previews as well as reviews of books that we are reading. It would still be supported primarily by listener participation, but would not be beholden to recording clips on books that have not come out yet but could also be reviews of books and storylines that people have already read that are enjoyable. I am thinking of readers who are focusing primarily on the older material and could talk about what they are reading.I don’t know what this means in regards to coding the Clips and I certainly don’t want to add more work to John but just an interesting thought to throw out there.

Jason, I like the idea of listeners reviewing and recommending past ideas. I did the Recommendation Round Table episodes for that sort of things a number of years ago during the pandemic but it never gained any momentum. I kept the link for submissions to it up on the front page of the website but haven't gotten any submissions for it in years. So while I like the idea, I think it might have even less participation then the Previews Spotlight does now. I might be willing to give it another try if there is sufficient interest and participation.

@John - I really appreciate the frankness and providing listeners an opporutnity to offer feedback on the future of Previews Spotlight. I voted for the episodes to continue, and I will be more diligent about submitting clips. Do not believe that I will be in a position to submit each month, but will aim for 8 to 9 months out of the year (provided the episodes continue). However, I certainly understand if you decide the Previews Spotlight episodes have run its course.

I considered submitting clips for the October episode, but struggled with selections. Part of it can be attributed to being several months behind on my stack(s) of new books. Didn't believe it was appropriate to recommend something when I am behind on something and struggling to decide whether or not it should get the ax.

I have an additional thought concerning the future of Preivews Spotlight. If the day comes and you decide to end these episodes, perhaps listeners could share what they are reading (new or old) any given month as part of the feedback for the Monthly Comics Spotlight episodes.

The problem that comes with adding others on what they are reading is people will spoil some things. Some people that listen dont like spoilers. Some people are behind on their reading like me and I cannot give my honest opinion on some of the new books coming out if im 3 months behind. This new chapter of our lives is going to decide our habits of our comic reading and/ or collecting. Continuing the previews is what I want but I get why John would or wouldn't. I originally joined because of the preview spotlight and the weekly spotlight.
