Mister Miracle.....what do you all think?

After 6 issues I’m finally giving up on Tom King’s Mister Miracle. This is a title that I really wanted to like. I enjoy most books Tom King writes and am a fan of Mitch Gerads art. I think they were great together on Sheriff Of Babylon, but I just cannot get into this story and can’t see why it is getting such critical acclaim.
I’m finding it slow moving and some aspects are confusing. Can anyone explain why we keep getting panels that almost look like they’re affected by a poor TV signal. The characterisation of Big Barda is about the only element I’m enjoying, with Scott Free just too morose to route for.
If anyone is completely loving this series I’d love to hear what it is I’m missing.

i think its good but i enjoy gerads art style more than most and the relationship stuff and mystery of whether
keeps me coming back.
still its the weakest of king's latest work, for me it goes:
The Vision > Batman > Sherriff of Babylon > Mr. Miracle

Hey Drew. I pretty much agree with your ranking of King’s work but think I’d switch Sheriff ahead of Batman. I think he’s hit his stride on Batman now but I also think the I Am Gotham and I Am Suicide stuff was weaker. Due to this I’d put it just below Sheriff as I thought it was strong throughout.

yeah i gave the edge to his 30 quality batman issues over the 12 of sheriff but its pretty close because sheriff was such a great complete story

I'm in the same boat. I think Vision is a way better series than what I'm seeing in Mr. Miracle. I thought maybe it was because I am not familiar with the character but, apparently not.

Mr. Miracle has been a favorite of mine since my mom bought me his Super Powers action figure. I agree that at times, Mr. King's artistic vision is hard to decipher, like the TV signal thing you mentioned. (And I've never been one of those who consider confusing storytelling to be synonymous with quality.) King evidently expects readers to already have a built-in familiarity with Darkseid's extended family, and I think he could do a better job of making the story accessible to all readers.
However, I've really been enjoying the book in spite of those flaws, and my enjoyment starts with having read a good deal of these characters in the past. You have all of these rather bombastic Jack Kirby creations, placed by King in a bizarre context (sometimes with amusing results, other times disturbing), a mixture which I can only describe as Apokalips-meets-Pee-Wee's-Big-Adventure. Reading ordinary mom-and-dad conversations between Scott and Barda against that backdrop has been a fun ride. It's "trippy", but not in a pretentious, Look-how-smart-I-am-because-I-can-write-things-you-can't-understand sort of way (a la Image's "Ice Cream Man"). Scott's anxiety about his ability to be a nurturing father after a lifetime of fighting gruesome wars in a hellish landscape really resonates with me, as I know a military vet who still deals with similar emotional baggage. Finally, I appreciate that I get a generous amount of story out of each issue, as opposed to the usual 20-page, decompressed blurb that modern comics seem to be.

Really enjoyed mr miracle - the end was up to interpretation so that if you wanted him to be
dead okay if you wanted him in heaven or hell you could interpret that way
