Well, if he can tap into the Christian market (this book is being done w/his pastor), it stands to sell WAY more copies than any regular comic he may put out.
Heck, if he can really tap the Christian market, it could sell 90s-Image #s. But, I suspect that those numbers will not be reported through Diamond.

Correct on both counts. The Left Behind comic miniseries did very well for Wildstorm a few years back, just not through Diamond.JLAFan wrote:Well, if he can tap into the Christian market (this book is being done w/his pastor), it stands to sell WAY more copies than any regular comic he may put out.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a brilliant business decision. If he's got distribution lined up through Christian stores, he could sell millions of copies and it would be an evergreen money maker.
Tyler Perry makes BOATLOADS doing inexpensive, Christian-friendly films
Mel Gibson made hundreds of millions with The Passion thanks to the evangelical audience
As John said, the Left Behind books (and related media) have been monster money makers.
I just find it interesting that arguably the most polarizing comic book creator of the modern era (OK, 2nd behind Dave Sim) turns out to be a a Christian Fundamentalist to boot.

Take a closer look at his past work and you'll notice a surprising amount of religious overtones in some of them.Wood wrote:Don't get me wrong, I think it's a brilliant business decision. I would, but I'm not sure I could handle the eye strain of the Cap man boobs and the non-existent feet!johnmayo wrote:Take a closer look at his past work and you'll notice a surprising amount of religious overtones in some of them.Wood wrote:Don't get me wrong, I think it's a brilliant business decision. The sad thing is that the images in that Newsarama article don't look too bad. I might even consider getting the first issue of the series...
(And, come on, with his track record, do you really think he'll publisher a second issue?)
