Captain Marvel #1 - Nothing much happened in this issue. Carol decided to take the name Captain Marvel. Seems like a long introspective character study is not the way to launch a new series, but that's just me. I'm sure there are those who loved this. Personally, I won't be back for #2.

I found it well written but ...
Captain Marvel #1 ... felt the art didn't gel with the tone. Did not love nor hate it, and certainly nothing that I was opposed to in the book, and may come back ... maybe, but probably not. (Uniform still looks like TEAM USA to me)

To me
Captain Marvel #1 was a bad first issue. There was generic fight at the beginning of the issue and a lot of forced discussions. The art was not good. I couldn't tell the difference between two older women that were "mentors" to CM. I will not be back for the 2nd.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that the art was not doing it for me either.....

I was having a good day today...
Wild Children one shot (Image)- Really trippy story involving some kids who take over a school, but they are really not your typical terrorists. Some really wild concepts explored & I like the Riley Rossmo art.
Wh0re OGN (Big City Comics) - Pretty good story about an ex-CIA operative who is downsized & has to turn to doing any mercenary work to make ends meet. The interesting twist is he does all kinds of jobs that are atypical for these kinds of stories (like guarding a pekinese dog in the Eastminster dog show). Transitions between the missions was kind of choppy, but I was entertained overall.
Debris #1 (Image)- Riley Rossmo's art is a lot tighter in this post-apocalyptic story that I've seen him do in other series (like Proof or CNJ) and I like it. Strong female protagonist & very action-y. I'm adding this to my pull-list.
Irresistable #1 (Zenescope)- I originally skipped this because it was solicited with a TBD artist (in fact the artist was TBD up thru the solicit of #3). I liked the art (by Derlis Santacruz) and the story was, while not completely original, executed fairly well. It's essentially a schlub who is made irresistible to women due to a magic spell. First issue was mostly setup, so I'll give this another issue or 2 to see how Raven Gregory handles it & where he takes it.

Irresistible #1 (Zenoscope) really enjoyed this issue of someone who lost love and only wished for women to give him the time of day. Wish granted.
Dan the Unharmable #1 (Avatar) My favorite comic write now. Yes is already on issue three but I find this book extremely entertaining.

Captain Marvel #1 it was a decent read nothing spectacular and nothing that really made we want to come back
National Comics: Eternity #1 Jeff Lemire and Cully Hamner Loved it. Felt like a pilot episode to a crime drama and I really love Lemire's writing. I would buy this if it was monthly
The Cape 1969 #1 Prequel to The Cape and an solid Vietnam story
The Crow #1 IDW Another take on the Crow that was not something we have not seen before but it was solid.
Before Watchmen Ozymandias #1- My least favorite character in Watchmen but the back story of how he got that way=AWESOME. So far all of these Before Watchmen have knocked it out of the park for me.
Finding Gossamyr #1 from @Th3rdWorld is a perfect first issue. Loved it (5/5)

I have another week before my comics get here ... anyone read the HAWKEYE issue yet? Hearing good things, but if Fraction gets the 'green fonts' here, that is a real good sign.

I read it, we're reviewing it for next week's show, release on the 13th, so I'll hold off on offering my opinion.

Hawkeye #1 It is hard not compare this book to Iron First when you have two out of the three key creative members of that book working on this title. What the two books share is the same hero of the people vibe that was a part of the early Iron Fist issues. There is no mystical Kung Fu background to explore with Hawkeye so we might see this title the mantle that was put down by the last Black Panther run.
The art is stylish and works well.

Black Kiss II (Image) - I'm not so sure how I feel about Chaykin's work here. I may end up dropping this, I'm on the fence. Didn't really work for me as a #1 issue. Seemed like a lot of stuff happening & I didn't make the connections. Very disjointed.
The Q&A with Chaykin in the back didn't help either. I don't like things that show a creator has disdain/general lack of interest in comics (other than what they themself create). Just a personal thing.

I thought
Black Kiss II #1 was a mess. I have no desire to read the rest of the series or even try out the prior series.

The 1st series (other than the sex & language) was not particularly similar to this. It was more of of a noir mystery. It was twisted, but I never felt like it was particularly incoherent like this new #1. But not for everyone. If the sex/language turned you off & not just the incoherent plot, stay away from the 1st series. The 1st one was a good story, IMO.

Pathfinder #1 (Dynamite) - I loved this. A lot more than the actual D&D comic from IDW, in much the same way that I'm now playing Pathfinder & like it a LOT more that AD&D 4E.
Jim Zub did a great job with the characters, I particularly liked the fighter & cleric. The cleric, in particular, was more logically in-character than almost any cleric I've seen before in comics of this genre.
Highly recommended for fans/players of fantasy RPGs.
Homecoming #1 (Aspen) - There were some really painfully overused tropes in this issue (the high school kid hacking into the school computer to create an identity for someone, for instance) but there was some cool new stuff to balance that out. In particular I liked how the issue ended and I really want to see where David Wohl is going with this.
