New York Five #1 (Vertigo) – Great series, and not a genre I'm normally a big fan of (slice-of-life following 5 college girls sharing an apartment in NYC). But it has a lot of what I like about Brian Wood comics, really nicely developed characters and very real background that the story is set against. I'm also a fan of Ryan Kelly's art, he teamed up with Brian Wood on Local (he has also done story arcs on DMZ & Northlanders).

Though not explicitly mentioned, this is a follow-on to the "New York Four" OGN that came out from DC under the short-lived "Minx" line in 2008.

Twilight Guardian #1 (Top Cow) – A great graduate of the Pilot Season program. This is a quirky book, but I really like it. This issue had some really cool elements where TG was reading comics before going out on patrol & they showed a page from those stories. Really fun book!

I loved it too. After reading this issue, I ordered the New York Four.

Fallen Angel Return Of the Son #1 (IDW) – Although this may be an issue #1 I reckon that a certain pre-knowledge of the Fallen angel universe is required to fully appreciate this comic. I have only read the Issue 0 omnibus up to now so I felt a little bewildered by the changes in the Fallen angel characters.
The story itself is engaging and it left a really good hook at the end so I will be continuing to pick this series up. The art style is a dark hand painted water color look which can polarize readers (people either seem to love or hate this style) but I liked it and it included a Caterham which was a huge bonus for me.

I really enjoyed this as a first issue. I also love how they interspersed comics throughout that the character is reading. When done well that really makes for an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed it too but with the promise that really cool ideas will come out in the future. I read the pilot issue, and this #1, kind of back to back which may have made it worse for me because both issues are basically the same.

I think there's a lot that can be done with this so I'm excited to keep reading, but I can easily see how someone could be really bored with this title. We'll see what happens in the future.

Jennifer Blood #1 (Dynamite) – I really enjoyed this issue, I'm tempted to give it a 5/5 but I'll go with a high 4. I liked the "diary narration". Looking forward to seeing what set Jennifer on this path as the story unfolds.

The L'il Depressed Boy #1 (Image) – I'm not really sure why I liked this, it's not the kind of story I'm usually drawn to, but it was very charming. I tried it out on the web first, and that's what led me to the comic.

Star Trek: Infestation #1 (IDW) – Kirk, Spock, & Bones fighting zombies! Just watch the "red shirts" getting chomped on! Plus, no robot zombies! I liked this one, nice seeing the ST guys in a zombie situation.

Ryan Kelly, 'nuf said! [WebWiz31] Big fan of his work on Local, and his work seems to have matured since. Beautiful ink work.

This had all the "feeling" of a really well executed mini-comic for some reason. Story and art were well executed and paired nicely. Very curious as to how this will evolve.

Frank Castle wrote: Echoes #1 - Loved it. Loved it in that Top Cow first issues TPB. Loved it as a PDF and loved the first issue that came out this week. Of course I'm a bit bias as I'm proud to say Rahsan is good friend. But Joshua delivered a great story. I'm excited for everyone who ordered the issues because, as mentioned before, the whole story is done and will ship on time.
I agree. It's funny how on the surface there wasn't a lot going on in this issue at all, but the ending and how they showed you things piece by piece was pretty good.

Flash Gordon: Invasion of the Red Sword #1 (Ardden) – I really liked this issue, it got me looking back to pick up the 1st series. Cool story & good art, suited to the story.

I agree with your 4 rating Bob. I see it as a female Punisher story with a lot of Desperate Housewives thrown in. It's classic Garth Ennis having fun with dry humor right next to gross out violence. It's entertaining thus far.

I also think this was a lot fun. I wasn't so sure zombies would work with Trek. The art was a little rough in places but it told the story. I could almost see this as an Original Series Star Trek episode.

Bob, I'd recommend the first series "The Mercy Wars." The artist was different but similar to what you get here in "Red Sword." So far, after only one issue, I like the story and artist here a little better. I felt like I got a satisfying issue with a lot going on in the pages. My only complaint was not being able to read some of the word balloons because they were supposed to be in an alien language. It was part of the story but it would be more fun to get a translation for the reader as a footnote.

King Conan: The Scarlet Citadel #1 (of 4) (Dark Horse) - So far I like this series better than the new main Conan title from Dark Horse. It's a shame this is only a mini-series. This series is closer to the black and white Savage Sword of Conan magazine that started in the 1970's. Although this new comic is colored and the art by Tomas Giorello is always top notch. If you enjoy sword and sorcery stories, this issue is a great jumping on point.

Jennifer Blood #1 - I love me some Garth Ennis and this was a strong first issue. Interesting little set up, character introduction and action in this issue. I'm very excited to see where it goes. Is she cleaning up the streets ala big Pun or is it all about revenge, doesn't seem she is getting paid or hired for this, so who knows!!
