Sometimes they are & sometimes they're not.
I generally read the solicits (for content & team) and make a decision on a case-by-case basis.
On the Marvel side, I decided to skip the Annuals with an Alan Davis Clandestine story that crossed over between (I think) Fantastic Four, Daredevil, & Wolverine. This seemed to not have anything to do with the normal stories & I'm not a huge ClanDestine fan.
But the GL Annual was solicited as bringing the Black Hand stuff to closure, plus setting up the next big thing in GL PLUS having art by Ethan van Sciver. Easy choice for me to get this one.
On the other hand, even though I got Superman & Action, the solicits led me to believe I could easily skip those annuals.
Even though the the solicit for the annual may have said that the Black Hand storyline concluded in the annual, the fact is I missed it. I usually don't buy annuals becuase I have found them to be full of filler with weak story and art. It sounds like they are better now but I've kinda trained myself to ignore annuals as a general rule.
I guess I'm just naive to think the story I'm reading will continue in the next issue of the series. Trust me, I'm not losing sleep over it but these types of things get tiresome. I don't happen to live very close to a shop so if I can't just pop in to the LCS to pick it up.
I don't know who will the new art team for Aquaman, but it sounds like Aquaman and JL will have a crossover starting in December and maybe that Ivan is drawing the whole crossover because they mentioned that he will be drawing the Throne of Atlantis storyline.

I'd also appreciate any help people would like to offer collecting data for the New 52 diagram. Specifically, I'd like to include in the diagram any/all footnote references and explicit reading order notes included in the comics.
John/Bob - I heard you on the previews episode. I should have mentioned that I was planning on starting to go through some of the 52 comics this weekend to give you some information. Last weekend was the Baltimore Comic Con so I was busy.
I thought I start with Superman, Teen Titans, Superboy because those titles seem to have the most tie-ins or references.

Great. I appreciate the help on the diagramming project.
And DC just solicited the Court of Owls collected edition for the December solicits - per my question from earlier. Looks like it'll be the "next" Batman HC/trade. Either way, it's good to be psychic sometimes.
Open it in another browser window. In Firefox, it will load zoomed out. If you click on , it will zoom to full size and you can move around using the browser scroll bars.

Does anyone know where Diogenes Neves is going to? Is he off Demon Knights for the time being? According to DC he is one of 6 pencilers on the Flash Annual (I will pass on 6 pencilers on one issue unless it is hundreds of pages). Anyone reading that annual, please chime in and let me know how it worked. I would imagine they would have to either copy each other's style or having a bunch of narrative threads going that each warrant a different penciller.
I really liked him and was hoping he was going to stay on Demon Knights. I guess it helps sales to move artists around but for me it usually leads to me dropping the old title.

It was pretty mediocre, IMO.
It came out Aug 29th, so I read it a few weeks ago & would be hard-pressed to tell you now what went on in it other than it had a bunch of Flash rogues in it.

Wow, that was awhile back. For some reason, the DC website made it seem like it was more recent. Looks like I didn't miss anything but at least the 6 penciller thing wasn't so bad to stay in your recollection.

Out of the ones that are cancelled, I already dropped all but Frankenstein, which I really like. The same thing happened last time.
I might go back and pre-order the Blue Beetle issues because it leads into the new Threshold series.
