This is for John Mayo.
The solicitations for JL 12 months ago and what is actually being released are different. The changes are:
No Shazam Backup
Jim Lee is the artist (along with 9 inkers!!!) for pages 1-28
Ivan Reis and Joe Prado artists for pages 29-30
David Finch artist for pages 31-33.
If I had to take a guess the David Finch pages are a teaser to the new JLA series.

I don't think the league has to have ONLY A-listers, but it shouldn't be a ghetto of only b & c-listers either.
My favorite league incarnations have had a mix of major characters with some less know characters mixed in.
I don't recall any league lineup made up of all minor characters that I have loved.
I'm not saying this can't be good, but it's got an uphill battle.

My problem with this line-up, and almost all comic super teams, is they realistically don't make sense.
Catwoman .... she's a burglar. How in the world is she going to help Martian Manhunter in anyway? I realize it's another body but still, she has no powers and not really any skill. You may as well invite any fighter from the local dojo to join the team.
It's like the Avengers movie. You have Thor and Hulk and Iron Man, and then a guy who shoots arrows [okay, I can buy this I guess] and then a girl with a gun.
Or even Batman in JL. Sure he's a good thinker, but it just bugs me that a guy in a suit is fighting with Superman and a Green Lantern. Those two should be good enough for almost anything shouldn't they? He should just stay in the cave and help out.
Bottom line, some characters just don't work in teams, at least for me.

I think the theory is that Catwoman would be good if they needed stealth/burglary type of things.......however, since Martian Manhunter can become invisible and phase thru walls, it seems he invalidates any reason to have Catwoman.

No Shazam backup? Bummer. I was looking forward to another installment of Billy Batson still not being Shazam yet.

What if they had to steal something from a building on fire?

I think this hits the nail on the head. I definitely like the A-Listers, but having some B's and C's to bounce off them in contrast is usually a good idea.

What? You don't like Superman being able to read every medical book in five minutes and then doing emergency surgery using his X-Ray vision and super-sharp thumbnail?
I don't know old Superman stories, and I'm pretty sure you're kidding, but something tells me this actually happened in an old comic?
happened in the latest issue of Action!

This summarizes why I've never read Superman

Nice. I guess as long as Catwoman had on an asbestos catsuit then she could do the job in that highly specialized circumstance

What if they need a pair of breasts with ridiculous cleavage on the cover...?

Are you referring to this piece of the '90s?
No cleavage. The book still needs Catwoman.

Interesting fact: I own the cover prelim sketch to this issue of JLT by Sal Velluto.
I have a bunch of JLT prelims, I should scan them in & post them.
