This is the place to discuss the episodes of the Comic Book Page podcast, the Comic Book Page website or pretty much anything else of interest to the Comic Book Page community...

I'm out of town, so don;t have my Overstreet for price reference, so I cannot immediately tell if everything is up for at or above guide like silver stuff is on AA.
What seems particularly "shady" about these guys, Matt??

I figured if anyone had the PDF version of Overstreet on their laptop, it'd be you Bob.

I'm not aware of there even being a PDF version.....
They did a PDF version of v35 and it is okay. The copy protection on it is a major pain. I'm not sure if they did PDF versions of the more recent editions.

Well, maybe it was just a shady user I was dealing with, but some parts of the buying process seem a little strange, especially making offers and counter offers. The layout of the site was kind of confusing as well, especially trying to find my credit card information. Maybe I'm just kind of creeped out without any basis, so if anyone has any experience with this site that contradicts my personal impressions (which may be completely untrue!), please let me know that this site is worth using!

I thought I heard grumblings about the copy-protected PDF. While it appears it's still available, I never heard of a PDF that was incompatible with Macs?!?

Yeah, it looks like you can either pay a set "Buy it Now!" price, or else there is an offer/counter-offer process.
Most books I looked at have had offers (one had 8 offers) and I assume from that # that they were all offers rejected by the seller.
So, for instance, a book I looked at with a B-i-N of $288 had offers, the highest of which was $151, which I assume the seller rejected. The book had been up on the site since early Feb. I'm guessing from this (without much scientific basis) that you might get a small amount off the B-i-N by making a low ball offer, but that most sellers will not part with something for 50% of their asking price (whereas I can often get a book for half guide or less on eBay).
OK, so I feel bad for Chuck Rozanski of MileHigh, in that his Thornton, CO store was flooded. He claims insurance will not compensate him fully for the "value" of the comics lost.
I suspect that is true, unless stupid, no insurance company is going to compensate him for what HE claims his stuff is worth. He's having an extra sale right now using the codeword FLOODHELP. I thought I'd check it out for some stuff I am looking for.
I'm trying to fill in my Fables run (switching off trades to monthlies):
Fables #21: MileHigh $14.00 LoneStar $2.16 Guide $3.00
Fables #27: MileHigh $8.00 LoneStar $1.89 Guide $3.00
Fables #40: MileHigh $9.00 LoneStar $2.16 Guide $3.00
I could go on. At the end of the day, I ordered 24 issues of Fables from LoneStar for a total of $50.85 Putting those same issues into my MileHigh cart left me with a total of $119.30 (which would have been $89.48 after the 25% discount or $38.63 MORE than LoneStar)
I don't need the following issues, but the price difference made me quite sick about MileHigh pricing:
Fables #10: MileHigh $20.00 LoneStar $2.16 Guide $3.00
Fables #11: MileHigh $22.50 LoneStar $2.16 Guide $3.00
Fables #12: MileHigh $22.50 LoneStar $2.16 Guide $3.00 CONCLUSION: DO NOT BUY AT MILEHIGH unless you check the LoneStar/MyComicShop.com prices to compare.
Darth Kramer wrote:Jeez... I don't think I have ever compared prices directly like that. 10x prices on those issues? Unbelievable!!!
I have. That was why I started shopping at MyComicShop.com. They have great selection, great prices and a much, much better website than MileHigh.
But, from time to time I do still order from Mile High but only things that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. And even then I know I'm paying a premium price for whatever I get there.
I'm glad you posted this Bob. I've gone from mildly intrigued by Chuck's pricing to downright disgusted over the last few months. Much like you, I felt bad about the flood and thought, "OK, find a few things to buy" and, like you, just felt like I was banging my head against a wall. Even at this week's 80% off some issues; he is still selling books for multiples of MyComicShop. It's just a disgrace.
If I ever meet him at a con, I'm going to say something to him. I just think it's despicable to have us believe that he's lost all his cash flow b/c of a flood when in fact he's either got unsustainably high overhead or he's rolling in the dough considering his pricing. It's just bush league.
I don't know what bothers me more, his pricing or the fact it seems that buyers all across the world go to him with reckless abandon in spite of the pricing.
As I may have mentioned before, one of the main things about MyComicShop.com that is not "best in breed" is the amount of time it takes them to process & ship an order.
I've been tracking this for the past 40 orders I have placed with them, and have the following data to offer up:
This will let you know the likelihood, based on when you place the order (by day of week) when it will be checked in, and then based on the checkin date you can see when it's likely to ship.
