For John, what did you think overall of the Jonny Quest series? Did it stick the ending for you? Will you consider picking up the Space Ghost/Jonny Quest series? I enjoyed the Jonny Quest storyline and I do think Joe Casey has a good handle on who the characters ( how they speak and interact) but just wish the stories were set in that 1964 timeframe that I enjoy so much from the cartoon series.

For James, did you read/finish the Conan Battle of the Black Stone miniseries and did the story and ending work for you? Are you through with the “Black Stone” story arc and ready to move on to a new story line like I am?

Are either of you going to be getting the new Hanna-Barbera Herculoids series from Dynamite?

A few questions:

1-I was talking about Batman’s softer fatherly side in Batman and Robin with my brother recently - you prefer your Batman dour and hrrmmm-ey or you like the kinder gentler Bruce? What your favorite era/characterization of Bruce/Batman?

2-How do you feel about anthologies? You tend to read or skip? Any favorites? I like them sometimes but seems The longer they are the Less I connect with the majority of stories

3-between Beneath the trees, animal Pound, Usagi and animal castle-I’m loving anthropomorphic comics these days - you enjoy animal comics too or tend to pass on them?

4-between DCs flatline and Marvels Jackpot - we’ve got some interesting new characters recently - who are some of your favorite new comic character creations in recent years?

I’m a little bit late on this, but wanted to ask what you thought of the weekly Phantoms story arc by Mark Waid in Action Comics #1070-1081. Did you enjoy it? Do you think that they used the Phantom Zone story part well? And what about Mon-El’s part in the story. Do you think his characterization was consistent with the character’s history and was he used well in the story in your opinion?

James posted on the Slack that a Monthly Comics Spotlight episode was being recorded soon. Hopefully my questions make it in time.

1. How would you summarize your comic book reading experience for Q1 of 2025? Did you notice any discernible patterns?

2. With the success of properties such as Transformers, Thundercats, GI Joe, and Gatchaman, which televisions series (live action or animated series) should be brought back as a comics series? And which publisher should oversee the property?

3. With Free Comic Book Day quickly approaching, have looked at the list of books being offered this year? If so, which ones are high on your list to read?

Hi John and James. Sharing a new set of questions for future Monthly Comics Spotlight episodes.

1. Do you anticipate the shift to digital only catalogs impacting your comic/graphic novel purchases?

2. If either of you are traveling this summer, do you anticipate checking out any of the local comic shops? Assuming the area(s) you are visiting will have a shop.

3. Has the recent deaths of Peter David and Jim Shooter caused you to revisit titles they wrote?

4. How would you rank the Superman related titles you are currently reading? Threw this question in because the new movie is about to be released (I am hoping to go opening weekend).

5. Please save the following questions until after you have read your June books.

5a. Which title(s) surprised you (in a good way) over the first half of 2025?

5b. Which title(s) disappointed you the most during that same timeframe? Did the title(s) get axed or are they possibly on the chopping block?

5c. Are there any previously announced titles you are looking forward to debuting during the back half of 2025?

Are you guys still enjoying Batman & Robin Year One series? This is a side question related to this series, but have you read the other year one series, and if so, what did you think of them and would you recommend them? Specifically, Nightwing Year One, Robin Year One, and Batgirl Year One? I read Gotham city year one and was very disappointed in the darker tone, as I was hoping that a noir story with Slam Bradley and the origins of Gotham as we know it would’ve had a slightly better overall story and not be quite as much of a downer. Have you read Gotham city year one as well and did you like it at all?

Are you guys reading death of the silver surfer and what do you think about the series so far? I was thinking about how big a fan I am of the classic silver surfer and specifically his origin issues and the 90s series and adventures. Are you two big silver surfer fans and if so, what era of the character is your favorite?

What did you guys think about New History of the DC Universe #2?

Listening to the Planet Hulk Back Issue Spotlight had me thinking, how do you guys decide on what material to cover in a story and what to leave out? For someone who has read the story, I could piece together what you guys were talking about, but for someone who may not have read planet Hulk, I don’t know how much they would be able to follow the plot. Where do you draw the line on the back issue spotlights and the monthly comics spotlights on how much of the plot to reveal and what to leave for the reader who may not have covered the material? I totally agree that Planet Hulk should have lasted longer. I would have liked a 3 year storyline which would have explored much more of the aspects of the different groups on the planet and set off the shock and emotion of World War Hulk much better.

This one is from Xman Patrick on the slack (he sent me a private message). Putting the question here for the upcoming spotlight:

Hey, I have a deep question for ya. After reading tmnt with Aaron as the writer was good. He is losing the author rights at #13 for a Asian American which may be cool. Its like G.I.Joe being written by Larry Hama who has been in the Armed Forces so he has experience with it. I hope the Asian writer Gene Luen Yang brings some of his ancestry to the turtles. With all that said, do you think it's time to reboot the turtles? IDW started their run in 2011. 14yrs of continuity. Im ok cause I love the turtles and I have read all the books from idw main line. But as I read the new series i have to remember 14 yrs of tmnt. I can recall some of it but for a new reader who wants to read tmnt it might be hard. "Shredder is coming back from where? Hell? Why is Donnie talking to a dead animal? Why are the boys separated? What's mutant city and why are there so many mutant people, ect ect." I could see people reading one issue and being like "what is this?".

1. Follow up question to Back Issue Spotlight #163 (X-Men/New Teen Titans) - Do you believe there are other eras of the X-Men or New Teen Titans/Titans that would have made for an interesting team-up. For instance, which X-Men team would you have paired with Geoff Johns' Teen Titans?

2. Are there any upcoming novels you plan on reading/re-reading? If so, could you share the author(s)/title/genre?

3. Are there any upcoming (Fall 2025) streaming/television series that have you excited? Throwing this question in because I miss the discussions between John and Sam about television ratings/network shows in general.

Michael Ho here. Hope you guys are doing swell!

1. For James: I know you're a Conan fan. Did you watch Conan the Adventurer back in the day? Did you enjoy it? I enjoyed with my brother when we were young and I'm wondering if there are past or current Conan comics that give the same feel as that cartoon did.

2. For John and James: the 2026 Masters of the Universe trailer was released not too long ago. I'm thinking maybe James is a fan of the franchise, but are you John? If you guys have watched the trailer, what are you thoughts about it?

3. For John: I'm a somewhat new Star Trek fan and I finished TNG awhile back and am currently watching DS9 and Voyager. How do you feel about where the current Star Trek franchise is heading right now? I've watched a couple seasons of Discovery, all caught up with SNW, and tried SA and I'm not really enjoying any of them. Discovery seems like it's all about action. SNW's last season was its' worst with the 'Four-And-A-Half Vulcans being so bad I had to skip a majority of the episode. SA turned me off on its' second episode when it talked about "making their beds." To me, current series lost the essence of Star Trek. They don't have deep or meaningful messages to convey. Their characters are so poorly written that I don't care about any of them like who I care about the characters from the old series. I've heard your recent SNW podcast and it seemed you and Kay liked it. With you being a SUPER fan, are you just enjoying the new series for what they are, or am I missing something here?

Hi John and James,

I have some feedback concerning Monthly Comics Spotlight #063: 2026-03 and a few questions.

Feedback:

During the episode James mentioned the Milestone Compendiums. There are currently four compendiums available, a fifth one is slated to be released in July 2026 - https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/book ... -mcduffie/.

The fifth compendium contains the final books from Milestone’s original continuity. Dwayne McDuffie’s final contribution to the line was the Milestone Forever two-part prestige book.

Weirdly, the Justice League of America/Milestone Crossover that McDuffie wrote that led into Milestone Forever is not does not appear to be included in the collection. Link to the arc in question - https://www.dcuniverseinfinite.com/comi ... 425a5370f9

I also recall the New 52 Static Shock series being mentioned. That book was written by John Rozum who contributed to the original Milestone continuity, however that title was in a separate continuity if I remember correctly.

Questions:

1. The final part of Hush 2 (Batman 163) is slated to come out May 27th. Do you plan on getting a physical copy of the book in order to complete your respective runs, or read it digitally when it becomes available?

2. Are either of you checking out Capes? It is set in the Invincible Universe. If you are not familiar with the title, it is listed on Image’s website as Invincible Universe: Capes - https://imagecomics.com/comics/list/ser ... e/releases.

The comic is a workplace superhero comedy that walks the tightrope between silly adventures and drama. When the title launched in 2025, it reprinted the initial series from the 2000s written by Robert Kirkman. Starting with issue 7, new stories will be published.

I know James expressed some disappointment with superhero titles as of late. However, Capes is worth buying if you are a fan of the Invincible property.

3. Have you considered developing a list of creators whose work you would like to revisit digitally, or find new-to-you titles to enjoy?
