Sky Pirates of Neo Terra #1 (Image) Let me just say this book is not for everyone. In fact I think this book probably is not for most people. This book is set in the same world as an upcoming Nintendo DS game. The plot is the fairly standard plucky young boy looses has his father kidnapped by some evil sky pirates. There is also a big race the kid has to win...stop me if you have seen this before. As I said before the story is nothing to write home about.

The art however is really nice. It is sort of a Japanese style, but it really struck me when I saw it in Previews and it does not disappoint after seeing the full issue.

If you had a kid who has an interest in anime or DS games then this might be a good trade to hand them to get them interested in comics.

Batman/Doc Savage #1 (DC) Wow!! What a great book! This has me seriously looking forward to the launch of the DC "First Wave" line in a few months.

SWORD #1 (Marvel) The art was really not working for me, the Beast was drawn totally "off model" and it was bugging me throughout the issue. I'm not going to keep getting this series.

The Ghoul #1 (IDW) Great story and a very interesting new supernatural detective character from Steve Niles & Bernie Wrightson. In the vein of Hellboy, but not derivative of Hellboy.

Supergod #1 (Avatar) Interesting setup to Ellis' 3rd "post human" arc. Kind of like where Kid Miracleman took Eclipse's Miracleman series.

Dark X-Men #1 (Marvel) I keep on trying to like X-Men books, and I keep finding myself unable to.....

Strange #1 (Marvel) I was expecting a LOT more from this series. Probably my least favorite thing from the pen of Mark Waid in the last 5 years. Not bad, but way less than I was hoping for.

Stumptown #1 (IDW) I loved this! Great hard-boiled PI story with a signature "strong female lead" by Greg Rucka. Not a cookie-cutter character, very different from previous leading ladies by Rucka.

Dark Reign: The List: Punisher: Wow! This SUCKED. Out Loud. Not even the John Romita Jr art could keep this from being a pile of crap. I guess you read this BEFORE Frankencastle. Now we know why Frank has to be sewed up and reanimated like Frankenstein. Really weak as a Punisher story, marvel should just give it up on this and let Punisher reside in the Max universe if this is the kind of story they are telling with him in 616.

PunisherMax #1: This was a GREAT book. This was as far into the "good" as the previous book was into suckage.
John, do not read this book. You do not want to see what happens when Wilson Fisk squeezes a guy's head....

Dark Reign: The List: Wolverine: Yikes! Another terrible book! I'm going to advise people to steer away from "The List" if you have not alreaqdy made that wise decision.

Dark Reign: The List: Secret Warriors: This was OK. Not great, but a masterwork compared to the Wolverine & Punisher books I read in the same sitting.

Punisher Max #1 - Loved it! But why wouldn't I with Aaron and Dillon on a Pun book. Great start to a what could be a great arc with Kingpin being introduced into the Max universe. Such a better than MU Punisher.

Stumptown #1 - I enjoyed Rucka's PI book a lot. I just spent the last 2 yrs of my life in Stumptown so it was fun to see the city in art/print form. Reminded me of Alias which I also loved.

Supergod #1 - I'm a sucker for Ellis's Avatar books and this didn't disappoint. Ellis really doesn't like Superheroes or at least he likes to write them how he thinks they would act. And with a tag line of "Praying to be saved by a man who can fly will get you killed" is brilliant.

The Escapist #1 - Finally got around to reading BKV's book from Dark Horse and I'm really digging it. It is only 6 issues, I got a couple more to read but it was a great first issue.

Image United #1 - I didn't pre-order this book and picked up the Jim Lee cover at my LCS. This was not good. It was a paint by the numbers company crossover. Especially with the "shocking ending" already revealed by the creators, nothing really happened. In this day of age of events coming out on a regular basis, the story has to be something special. Also, I felt that the Kirkman assumed that the reader would care about these characters going in and not worry about new readers or old long-time readers coming back. I will not be picking up the other issues.

PunisherMax #1 - I would say that is the best book that Jason Aaron has done at Marvel so far. This is what the Punisher should be. I will be picking this one up and eventually dropping the other Punisher title.

Dark X-Men #1 - I thought this was a solid first issue. However, except for Mystique, I could care less about the other characters. So it is really on the strength of the creators that I enjoyed the book. I am still on the fence if I will pick up the other issues.

Dark Reign: The List: Wolverine - I thought this was a great fun book. However, like all the other List books, these are very weak in the sense that anything really happens in these Lists book.

Stumptown #1 - I too enjoyed this title a lot. This is Rucka at his best. The artist is really good and reminds me of Michael Lark. I will be picking up the rest of this mini.

Strange #1 - I think Marvel needs to do a much better job with their mini-series. They seemed to be more filler than actual plot/character development. This is a prime an example. After reading New Avengers and then Doctor Voodoo, this was a real disappointment. I already pre-ordered #2, but I will not pre-order the other issues.

Anywhere #1 (Arcana) - Pretty good comic, with some alternate super-dudes who are kind of slackers. Liked the price too, only $1! I'll be getting the rest of the series.

Daytripper#1 (Vertigo) - A comic that's unlike anything else I've read in a long time. Kind of "slice of life" but not in the chick-flick style that I can't really stomach. Good story and I'll be back for more.

God Complex #1 (Image) - We've seen this story a number of times before. While nicely executed, not a lot we haven't seen before, maybe we'll tread some new ground in #2.

Nation X #1 (Marvel) - Really not what I was expecting, but in a good way. 4 short stories about different X-Men, all self contained and each one was pretty good. I'm glad I picked this one up.

Spider-Man: Secret Wars #1 (Marvel) - Another book that took me by surprise. I really liked this, set "between the panels" of the original Secret Wars mini-series, this was really well done. I'll be back for the rest of the series.

Image United #1 - Well, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. I really liked the idea of everyone drawing their character. Some pages looked cool and some were quite the jumbled mess. I really have no idea if I'll stick around for the rest.

Incorruptible #1 - I can totally see this being a Green book for me if I was reading Irredeemable. And I think I might start reading this. I love the idea of villian and hero trading roles.

Forgetless #1 (Image) - Would have been called "Forgettable" if under a truth in advertising clause. The blurb describing this was far more interesting that the delivered issues that was a meandering story that really failed to capture my interest, I won't be continuing with this one.

Chimichanga #1 by Eric Powell. If you are a fan of the Goon and that strange world you will love this book. I really enjoyed it and just signed up for the next two in DCBS.

I ordered this one and am looking forward to reading it when UPS gets around to delivering my package from Dec 23rd. I'm glad to hear good things about it.

Well if you like the Eric's work in the Goon I think you will enjoy it. Same sort of weird world you can expect from Eric.

Forgetless #1 - by Spencer, Forbes, Zarcone. I read Bob's negative review (above) about this book so I went in with low expectations. While reading it I was agreeing with the bad review until I reached the halfway point of the book and then it started to grow on me. A nightclub called the Forgetless, two
model assassins, and a bunch of under age kids trying to sneak into the club. I liked it and think it can only get better (3/5). I am adding it to my pull list.

Goes to show that every title is going to be loved (or liked) by some while others just don't get it.

PS: I wrote my review about a week after I read the issue, and I really was serious, I could not remember any particular plot points about the issue that made me want to continue. Was not the worst book I ever read by any stretch, but with all the books I get, something has to hit at least a certain bar with me for me to add it as a new title.
