I think Bob is trying to get me to read the title. It is one of the very few mainstream Marvel universe titles I don't get.

Seriously, why issue 5 of Titans? My three comic vices that I always get sucked back into every couple of years are X-Men (started reading with Uncanny #113), LoSH (started reading in Adventure & Superboy before they had their own title) and NTT (started with DCCP #26), but after the first two issues of this run of Titans, I'm giving up early this time. While the first issue I found to be just mediocre, the second completely left a bad taste in terms of both poor storytelling and poor artwork. For me there doesn't seem to be much point to this series beyond trying to get the old fans of the Wolfman/Perez era to shell out money based on nostalgia. Perhaps I'll be wrong and the series will right itself, but at this point, I'll wait a year and see what is being said.

Lots of other nice promos though, so thanks for all the suggestions you guys make to DCBS! :D

We'll often recommend special discounts that are not #1 issues (since Cameron often discounts those on his own) that have some significance, like the start of a new arc, some expected significant happening, or, like Titans #5, a standalone issue that may be a good done-in-one way for someone to check out a series to see if they like it......

TITANS #5

Written by Judd Winick
Art by Rodney Buchemi
Cover by Ian Churchill
In the stand-alone story “Date Night,” four Titans face the fact that love is a battlefield. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure is making his way to Titans Tower. Who is this ominous stranger – and how does he or she know the Titans?

NOTICE!

Cameron tells me that the DCBS site is scheduled to update for June late tonight (Saturday), so people should be able to get their fix on Sunday.....or late tonight if you're up!

A fair question...

We made this pick based on Titans #5 being what looks to be a stand alone issue. It seemed like a good chance for people to try out the title.

We also made this pick prior to me reading Titans #2.

I would like to disagree with your assessment on the series. I really would like to. But I can't. So far it hasn't been great. My hope is that Titans #5 will be a more character focused issue and that by issue #5 the creators will have gotten a better grip on the characters and that the art will improve. The series has the potential to be a top seller for DC but I agree that the fist two issues have fallen short of that.

Thanks for the clarification, to both you & Bob. (Btw, is there a way to reply to multiple posts, besides manually cutting them in?) I do appreciate that you try to give Cameron suggestions other than the obvious #1s to discount. As I mentioned to Bob in reply to his PM, I haven't received my Previews yet and don't normally bother looking at the online solicits, so I didn't realize this was a stand alone issue. I'm especially surprised that it is, given that the story hasn't really started through the first two issues, so I don't see it wrapping up well by the end of #4. But perhaps #5 is more of an interlude to the first big story - which would be another attempt to imitate the Wolfman/Perez era.

While I'll share that hope with you, I am not going to be spending the money to see if it happens. I'll wait and see what the talk is in about a year and then perhaps go back and either pick up the back issues or the tpb. Like you, I really think these characters should be able to form the basis of one of DC's top books, but it just doesn't seem like anyone has been able to get a grasp on them as adults. Although to be honest, while the story hasn't been great so far, the art in #2 (btw, #5 still yet another artist - are #3 & #4 different as well?) really sealed the deal for me in terms of not continuing. Releasing a new series, especially what should be a big title series based on the history of what New Teen Titans was in the '80s, and not being able to maintain a consistent artist is not what I'd consider a good sign.

My box was the same size but I had a lot of hardcovers and trades. I ordered six copies of True Story Swear to God Archives.
