House of Mystery #1 - The verdict? Pass. This isn't what I'm looking for. I don't need an ongoing story with just little vignettes of what used to be standard House of Mystery fare. Those are what I'm buying the book for. Guess I'll stick to the Showcases.

Yes I heard you did not like it in your episode. I think the reasons that you did not like it are the reasons I liked it. I liked the characters being plucked from different times and it being a stand alone mini without me having to worry about the baggage of both universes. For me it really did work but I can see where you are coming from.

same here just picked up a full run on ebay for dirt cheap. I already had some of the later issues but I have always been a fan of Mike Grell. I read issue #2 as well and I am really digging it.

Fair enough. Your point about the lack of baggage from both universe is a good one. I do hope the art evens out in future issues. I was a bit surprised how good it was on some pages and how bad it was on others. I think this series has a lot of potential to be a great story but just got off to a sort of weak start.

I liked Dreamwar #1 for the exact same reasons you did, Mike.

Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space #1 - I know Bob that this was a piece of @#$! but it worked for me as a really bad Ed Wood B/C film

Anna Mercury #1 from Avatar - I picked up the preview at WWLA and loved the art. It doesn't hurt either that Warren Ellis is writing the book. I finally got around to reading issue #1 and I loved it. Warren tells a great story about a hero who is trying to prevent a world, that doesn't exist, from destruction.

I'm 50/50 on Radical after those first two issues.

Caliber wasn't exactly what I hoped it would be but I love Westerns and Arthurian legend so there was enough there, in conjunction with solid art, to keep me going for the 5 issues.

As to Hercules: Thracian War, I'm really on the fence whether to continue on with the series. It wasn't at all what I expected, and not in a good way. The notion that most of humanity thinks Hercules is a delusional maniac is cool conceptually, but I thought the execution left a lot to be desired.

The solicits for the next two Radical books also do nothing for me; I fear I may have gotten caught up in the Radical/Barry Levine hype a bit too much.

Does not sound like you got caught up in the hype, but that you're having a negative reaction to it.

Or, perhaps you mean your expectations were set so unrealistically high by the hype that there is no way the books could possibly live up to what you thought they would be.....

I'm genuinely surprised at all the negative feedback I'm hearing on both Caliber & Hercules, since I thought they were both great. I guess I'm only hearing the negatives, did ANYONE else like them?

Big Badz #1 - Neutral - I was not crazy in love with it, but it was good enough for me to get #2

Man With No Name #1 - Thumbs Up - I got this at the LCS on a lark and was surprised that I liked it so much. I think it helps that I LOVED the movies, and this felt like it flowed out of the movies (to me, anyway).

War That Time Forgot #1 - Thumbs Up - I really liked this one. I have added this series to my pull list. Bruce Jones has taken a step towards redeeming himself in my eyes. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed one of his stories, and this one has me anticipating the next issue.

I was unimpressed with this one and decided not to continue with it. It wasn't horrible, just not good enough for me to stick with it.

I went in with low expectations and really enjoyed this issue.
