Amazing Heroes was a pre-Wizard fan magazine. I used to read it all the time, and yearly (or so) they would have a Swimsuit issue that was chock full of full page drawings by various artists of the time of comics characters in swimsuits. Usually very attractive ladies, but every now & again a drawing of Cyclops in a banana-hammock would slip in, as I recall.

Anyway, I have good memories of Amazing Heroes, but didn't really save the magazines. When I checked at MyComicShop.com, all the Swimsuit issues were the ones they didn't have in stock, thus, this was a good volume to try to get.

BTW, the price that amazed me was the Flex Mentallo at >$600. It's only 7 issues, and you can pick all 7 up for <$100 total. Add in the price of having the set bound yourself and you could have the exact same thing for <$150.

The Miracleman price was also quite impressive, but it would be considerably harder to collect up all those issues.

I've been quoted US$60/CAN$75 per book for comic binding service here in Toronto. Is that a reasonable price?

There's an episode of CGS where they interview the guy from Library Binding on how it all works, best practices, etc. It's a good listen if you are interested in binding.

There's even a sub-forum dedicated to binding at the CGS boards.

Truth be told I've never even read it. People talk so much trash about it I never bothered to grab them out of the .25 bins!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Let me answer some of the questions that have been asked. All of the buyers were PayPal verified, even the low feedback ones. That was a relief on my behalf. Also each of the purchases were eligible for seller protection from PayPal. The buyer of the Miracleman/Marvelman books and the Flex Mentallo book had both been emailing me personally getting information on the books. And they both emailed me immediately after the auction verifying all of the information was correct. These honestly were some of the easiest auctions I have had to do. Communication and payments were very prompt.

I am still in shock honestly at how well these did. Does binding increase comic values? I honestly think in some cases it does, but that is my opinion. I think it also factors in if something will be reprinted again. Here are some of my examples, I bound an entire run of Spider-Ham that got close to $300, Defalco's Green Goblin series $70, and obviously the Miracleman and Flex. None of these series has ever been reprinted in trade (Other than Miracleman) to where they are affordable. I just eliminated the middleman and put everything into one book. That and along with the rising popularity of TPB's and HC's, it seemed like a no brainer. Another thing people on other binding boards have brought up is the fact that some people are just too lazy to do it themselves. They like bound comics, but won't put the effort into doing it. So they don't mind paying extra for something that is completed and already done.
