Drew and I discusses the topic of duplicate picks for the Previews Spotlight on Weekly Comics Spotlight #547 which we recorded last night. Here are my current thought on the subject (which hopefully are in line with what I said off the cuff about this when recording last night):

I don't want people to feel they can't send in a clip if someone else has picked the item.

There have been times someone picks an item but things happen and they end up not having time to send in the clip. That doesn't happen too often but it does happen.

That having been said, if multiple people have picked a given item, I would hope that each person has more to say than just the solicitation blurb. Otherwise it does feel redundant.

If someone has picked an item you want to record about, either mention in on the thread or PM them and talk with them. Maybe one of you have a lot more to say about the item while one of you was just going to read the solicit to be sure the item got mentioned.

Also, once you've sent in your clips, maybe circle back here and add a reply with the list of clips you sent it so other know.

I certainly don't want the episode to be a chore to listen to but nor do I want people thinking they should send in fewer clips.

I don't mind hearing duplicates, because I always figure it means listeners are more hyped for that series. I think it's actually persuaded me to try a few series after hearing everyone's excitement. That being said, I like to find books no one else is talking about for most of the clips I send in. I'll pick my picks later tonight or tomorrow.
I read comic books for fun.

For this month, I left in the duplicate picks and there were a couple of them:

Black Hammer: Age of Doom #1
Doctor Star and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows #2
Aliens: Dust to Dust #1
Astro City #52
Thanos Annual #1
Suvival Fetish #1

I'm going to start another thread for us to discuss how best to handle this and hopefully get a consensus before the next Previews comes out on February 28th.

The new thread with a poll is here: Dealing with duplicate picks for Previews Spotlight episodes

I just listened to the Episode (#124) and, oh, man...I can really recommend this series, particularly issue 5 where the reporter finds out something important that will definitely have repercussions in the regular series. Plus, you missed that I've had two letters published during the series! [WebWiz2]
