I'm very happy with Drawer Boxes so I don't see a need to move away from them.
That having been said, I kept the short boxes my collect had been in prior to switching to Drawer Boxes about a decade ago and I've been filling up those short boxes over the past few years. I just counted and I have 60 of the short boxes left which equates to roughly 8,400 or so comics. At the rate I'm going, by 2020, I'll probably need more boxes of some sort. And probably a bigger house.
My thinking is I want to move at some point anyway. If I'm going to move, I have the option of moving a little further out of town where I could get a bit more space. The nice thing about Austin it you don't have to get too far out of town before you are effectively in the country.
If I were to get a customized house an aspect of the design of it would be how the comics would be stored. The design of the comic book room would influence if I stuck with Drawer Boxes or not and vice versa. Odds are I might go with a split approach since I've got the Drawer Boxes and short boxes, I might was well use them. The room might also double as the "studio" for the podcast.
Whatever I wind up with, I want easy access to my complete collection which I don't have now due to the size of the collection and the size of the space it is currently in. Given the size of my collection, whatever room contains it in a new house wouldn't be small, as such, I'd want it to be a little bit of a show piece if you know what I mean. Nothing crazy fancy but something that looks nice, organized and comfortable. Something like a comic book librarian's workroom or something. I'd also want room to have my ever growing collection of actions figures and toys accessible too.
