I'm a little concerned about your second Image pick running a foul of the iTunes profanity policy. I'll need to "bleep or cut the audio that contains the words, and censor the explicit words" according to the iTunes policy. That will include altering the title of the comic in the show notes. Since we have the page number, that should cause a problem.MichaelCastle wrote:Hey guys these are my picks this month

As a reminder, the ComicBookPage podcast is an all-ages podcast and is profanity free.
It is a shame that some publishers have decided to use profanity in titles making it challenging to support those titles.

John, does that mean he could just record the solicit and avoid using the full title's name in the recording and it should be okay? Maybe saying "Southern [blank]"?JohnMayo wrote:I'm a little concerned about your second Image pick running a foul of the iTunes profanity policy. That would be fine. It avoids the profanity.bralinator wrote:John, does that mean he could just record the solicit and avoid using the full title's name in the recording and it should be okay? Maybe saying "Southern [blank]"?
As for exactly where the line is drawn on what is and isn't profanity, as far as iTunes goes, that is up to the guys at Apple.
I've worked long and hard on the podcast and don't want to risk the podcast getting bounced out of iTunes because of something like this.

John, you're very pragmatic and I appreciate you wanting to err on the side of caution rather than risk the wrath of AppleJohnMayo wrote:That would be fine. Ok I sent the clip in and just called it Southern Blank. It's interesting to me that you could get booted from iTunes for this word. It's a family friendly podcast so I get that. Obviously if someone has a copy of Previews or goes to their website they can see the real title. The title perfectly encapsulates the series and it's been optioned by FX so he title will hopefully be on TV soon enough. It's a highly acclaimed series and one of my favorites really excited it will be back in November. Anyways looking forward to the Previews Spotlight and everyone's pics

yeah I have recorded over 440 episodes of my CFP podcast and probably mention southern bastages and beyotch planet in 200 of them...and I am a clean podcast by iTunes standards...but to each his own...now which boundless comic should I choose to spotlightbralinator wrote:John, you're very pragmatic and I appreciate you wanting to err on the side of caution rather than risk the wrath of AppleJohnMayo wrote:That would be fine. We live in a world in which some people are both easily offended. The problem isn't having profanity in a clean podcast episode so much as being caught having profanity in a clean podcast because someone claimed. Apple has to protect the accuracy of the "clean" versus "Explicit" tags in iTunes.drew wrote:yeah I have recorded over 440 episodes of my CFP podcast and probably mention southern bastages and beyotch planet in 200 of them...and I am a clean podcast by iTunes standards...but to each his own...now which boundless comic should I choose to spotlight
What raises the issue here is my habit of putting all of the titles in the show notes for the Previews Spotlight. Unlike the content of a podcast episode, show notes are very easily searched for things like offending words.
I have no way of knowing what Apple does and does not consider to be explicit language. Things like profanity are defined using the "I know it when I see it" rule versus having a list of specific words which are consider profane or explicit.
There is a significant penalty (being booted out of iTunes) and no particular upside (people will know or can easily figure out which title is at question) to having profanity in the podcast. Erring on the side of caution just seems like the smart move. I really appreciate everyone cooperating with that.
As for your other podcast Drew, it is entirely possible you've just been lucky that nobody has complained. It is equally likely that either nobody has been offended or considered the wording to be explicit given the context and the tone/style of your show.

HAHAHA! Speaking of, how did that Lookers #0 comic turn out. Will you and Kyle be reviewing that any time soon on CF&P?

It's no ravening or jungle fantasy but pretty good - not sure we are doing many review shows anymore - just not enough hours in the day
