Is that the same stuff that came out in Archives? I've been looking at the Doom Patrol archives but I haven't found them at the right price yet
Yes, we're talking about the same Doom Patrol that was reprinted in the DC Archives here. COMPLETELY different from the Morrison run, this is a fairly "standard" Silver Age DC book, maybe a bit edgier (with the 60s definition of "edgy" which by today's standards is not much of an edge at all)

Yeah, I kinda splurged with some birthday money and picked up a book I've been lusting after for quite a while.

Detective Comics #247. I'm gonna be reviewing it on my podcast around issues #76-79 of Starman, so if you don't know what it is, it's the first appearance of Professor Milo and Bruce Wayne becomes "Starman" for an issue. This event was even referenced in the most recent issue of Batman as "Prof. Milo's fear gas".

That sounds like a good storyline. I'll have to add Detective 247 to my want list.

my LCD here in Memphis is having a blowout of old stuff, thankfully when they do it, they do it by selling them as sets.

Here's what I grabbed today
JLA (1st series) 217-259
JLA (2nd series) 1-83 (almost a whole run now as I have most of 90-the end)
JLE 1-64 and annuals 1-4
Dr. Strange 40-81 (primarily for the issue for Buzz)
EMan-1-25, complete series. Bob, this better be good.
Hellblazer-180-240, all but 230-240 for Bob, if anybody wants the other ten let me know.

So I got lets see 309 or so comics, total outlay, 220 bucks not including tax, pretty good deal, I'd say, 170 for the 250 that are mine.

I'm trying to talk Jon into trying out the Andy Diggle run on Hellblazer, help me out, guys......make some compelling arguments.....

John, if you REALLY don't want those Hellblazer issues, I'll take them all and give out 230-240 as a prize on the show.

Thanks to Matt Kramer he turned me and my co-host of DC Noise onto Hardcore Station 1-6. We are huge fans of Mystery in Space and now Rann/Thanager Holy War so we were very excited to find out about this six issue mini from the 90s. I am really looking forward to reading it.

After the downturn that the book went through with the Mina run Andy Diggle has taken John back to where he was when he first came through in Swamp Thing and the start of the Hellblazer run... It's been getting better and better as it's been going on and I'm starting to get concerned about what it's going to be like when he leaves at 245!

I would consider those as a MUST READ if you have any interest in the character!

And I've got back to nearly finishing the entire run and I can't believe how good it is now.

Back Issues in Switzerland

I just got back from Switzerland and Italy and bought a bunch of back issues, concentrating mostly on foreign editions of Captain America...

From a shop in Zurich, some German language books....

CAPTAIN AMERICA COMIC-TASCHENBUCH #23, 24, 25, 26
These were the last four issues in this 1990s German digest run from Condor.

DIE SPINNE #25 & 31
Germany's Condor book reprinting the classic Spider-man/Nova & Spidey/Captain Britain team ups from the 1970s.

DIE RUHMREICHEN RÄCHER #15 & #56
1970s German books reprinting 1960s Avengers. Avengers stories where Cap forms his first team with the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Hawkeye along with the first Vision appearance.

DIE ABENTEUER VON CAPTAIN AMERICA #1-4
Early 1990s ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN AMERICA series reprinted in German.

DER TOD VON CAPTAIN AMERICA
Yet another version of the Death of Captain America book from 2007 only this is an Essen, Germany convention special which reprints the Directors cut, in German, with a Paolo Riviera cover not seen in the States.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #1
A bootleg. Never existed. 1970s German reprints of Cap existed as 1960s Tales of Suspense reprints in the back of the German Master of Kung-Fu book. And frequently those reprints were hacked up with panels out of order or removed making the story incoherent. So, one enterprising German graphic artist recently scanned it all in and resequenced the order of the German language version to make more sense and printed up only 25 copies. Looks pretty good. This one features the first appearance of Sharon Carter and Batroc from 1966 with the 1970s German book dressing.

X-MEN ARCHIV BAND 2
An interesting collection of German language reprints of the classic Claremont/Byrne run (first half). This comes in a slip case. While most recent reprints of these might come as a Masterworks, even for another language and for Europe's trade-savvy market, they took the time in 2001 to reprint the single issues in German and have the single issues (12 total) go into the slipcase.

Also...

From France....
STRANGE #184
French book that reprinted Marvel stories from the 1970s thru 1990s with sometimes some really nice painted covers. This features Tony Stark.

From Russia...
MICKEY MOUSE (only spelled in the Russian Cyrillic language)
I'm having trouble finding Russian Marvel and DC so I had to settled for Some Misha Mouse. My first Russian Comic!! Yay!!

THE FLY #1
Simple English revival of the character from the early 1980s. Easy to find here in the states but I grabbed it because it was there.

From a couple different shops in Milano, Italy...

CAPITAN AMERICA #2, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14, 33, 55, 73, 202
This is the Editoriale Corno run of Cap that started in Italy in 1973. Nice books that started reprinting the Tales of Suspense books to the 1970s Cap to Invaders and Avengers stories. Sometimes they would alter the cover art like the classic Avengers #4 cover only with just Cap and not the rest of the Avengers.

CAPITAN AMERICA & I VENDICATORI #5, 8, 11, 12, 17, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 42, 68, 77
Captain America & the Avengers run from the early 1990s from Italy's Star Comics run. These are really nice books, heavier than the average comic, with a harder stock cover and nice printing. Here, they reprint many of the Zeck Cap issues from ten years earlier.

SPECIALE CAPITAN AMERICA #2
4-issues in 1 special featuring the issues when John Rogers takes over as Cap from the late 1980s.

CAPITAN AMERICA & THOR #3, 34
Waid/Garney's first run on Cap along with pre-Heroes Reborn Avengers stories.

CAPITAN AMERICA & THOR #42, 47, 48, 52, 55,
Late 1990s Marvel Italia featuring reprints of Waid & Garney's second run on Cap along with Sentinel of Liberty stories.

THOR & I NUOVI VENDICATORI #97
2007 Marvel Italia/Panini comics featuring a Civil War cover. Interesting is that Thor is no where in this book (he's still dead at this point) and instead we get No Civil War stories as advertized on the cover but Brubaker Cap stories and Luke Cage's wedding.

L'UOMO RAGNO #242
From Corno, Italian reprint of the Nova/Spider-man 1970s team up. Spider-man had a very lengthy run in Italy during the 1970s and 1980s.

SPECIALE TV FLASH
Italian version of the early 1990s Flash TV Show one-shot comic. I'm a fan of the show.

CAPITAN AMERICA: ROSSO, BIANCO, & BLU
Italian version of the CAPTAIN AMERICA: RED, WHITE, & BLUE hardcover collection.

While I was in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, I was also looking for some French Cap but found more tradtional European graphic novel shops that I expected to find. But I did make some good contacts in Milano and Zurich and hope to fill up my German and Italian Corno and Star Cap runs in the future.
