I'm going to hit a few shops in town. One store is giving away a copy of the 1963 Avengers #1.
And I'm going to try and make it to the JRJR signing too

It really depends on the length of the comic & the kind of paper (coated stock weighs more than older newsprint), but without bags & boards it's an average of about 8 comics or so. So at $3/lb you're getting them for a hair less than 40cents each, a bit more with bags/boards.

You 2 are on your own this year. I have no desire to go to Meltdown, way too much trouble (traffic to get there & lack of parking once I'm up there).
I'm going to ComicBug in Manhattan Beach in the early afternoon.

Actually that was from their press release. I don't know if I am going there or not. I was lazy and just copied it. I need to be more careful in the future.
I might stick to the valley or I might venture to ComicBug. I think we want to hit the Pasadena Collector's Paradise signings in the afternoon but nothing set yet.

I made it to both Austin Book and Tribe comics this morning. I've already read the DC New 52 FCBD issue and Hypernaturals from Boom Studios and enjoyed both. I was surprised that the New 52 had what appears to be some important backstory material for the new DC Universe.

The DC New 52 FCBD was really good. I loved that 4 page Jim Lee spread. Definitely something that was put together with a lot of thought.

The family and I hit up a couple stores in the Seattle area. Picked up a few bucks, the MG HC is pretty fantastic, Logan loved it and every other book you would expect (GL, TFs, Avengers). I was lucky enough to pick up a couple sketches:
Royden Lepp of Rust
Matthew Southworth

I managed (for about the 4th year in a row) to get pretty much all of the FCBD books.
I didn't get the advertised Dune book from Boom!, but that was cancelled & replaced with Hypernaturals (which I did get). Didn't get the cancelled "Marble Season" from D+Q, but got their Moomin book. The only book I saw advertised way back when that I couldn't find was Muqtatafaht from Caption Box
By the end of the day I had visited 4 different stores. 2 were really great (Nuclear Comics, Comics Toons & Toys), artists on hand doing free sketches, commissions, and selling art & prints. Mr. & Mrs. LA Rabbit introduced me to Comics Factory in Pasadena & this is a GREAT store. Near CalTech, an AMAZING selection of books + busts & toys. I'll be visiting this shop again. One store (Collector's Paradise) was kind of disappointing, they had some great creators on hand but had extremely poor line control and they put big stickers for their store on the cover of every book. I'm all for a store advertising & if they're giving it away for free they can do whatever they want. That said, I don't like defacing comics, even free ones. I didn't take any free comics from them & I'd not go back to their store on FCBD ever again.
Here's a pic of what the FCBD "full monty" looks like:
I got this nice Hulk sketch cover from Ray Anthony Height:
I picked up a pencil page from Fathom: Kiani from Oliver Nome (This looks much better in person):
I bought about $90 of recent back issues of comics from the place that had 50% off on all comics that were not from this week (but were still racked), they also had a LOT of $1 comics, stuff I already had, but other people were getting some great buys. Another shop had 30% off on all back issues, so I picked up a few things I was looking for from the last few years, they didn't have any really old stuff. I found the DC Direct Lucifer mini bust at my last shop of the day, this was the only one from that series I didn't have & I'd not seen one for sale in at least 8 years.
Capped the day off with dinner at a pretty good little Italian place in Pasadena w/ Andrew & Lisa.
All-in-all a great FCBD.

Muqtatafaht was cancelled that was why you couldn't find it. It was one of my DCBS FCBD 5.
We had a good but busy FCBD. Unfortunately with the timing of my daughters soccer games, we couldn't all go to the LCS together. So I took my oldest to the Laughing Ogre in the morning while my wife took our youngest to her game. They had a great selection of FCBD (I believe they had all of them). My daughter was really happy. She also found the Smurfs volume they were missing and picked up a Courtney Crumrin hardcover based on Bob's recommendation. I picked up a trade I wanted and a couple comics as well.
After switching kids (my oldest had soccer pictures), I took my youngest to Big Planet Comics. They had Jeremy Whitley, writer of Princeless, and Jorge Aguirre, writer of Giants Beware!, two all-ages books. My daughter was quiet but happy. I talked to both of them and they seemed two very nice and excited creators. I plan on reading both of these books after my daughters are done with them. I picked up Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City by Guy Delisle. Big Planet Comics have a great podcast and they talked about how great this book was on a recent episode.
After that, I went for lunch with my daughter, picked up a gift for my wife's birthday and then went back home to pick up my oldest to take her to her soccer game.
A great and busy day.

I hung out at Gotham City Comics and Coffee all day slinging books and doing sketches. Had a great time and fell into a zone my friend Ben Glendenning said is rare - whatever I happened to be drawing at the time (for myself) people would ask what I'd charge for it and end up buying it. That apparently is pretty rare, but it's a fun zone to fall into.
Sent a few people home happy with some great sketches (Raven, Wolverine, Supergirl, etc.) and got a book or two sold.
Plus I was sharing a table with Brian "Gotham by Gaslight" Augustyn, so that was a lot of fun as well. Met a cool cosplayer who shared my love for the New 52 Wonder Woman (she was dressed as her but is also a big fan of the book!). And they had a Slush Puppy machine on the premises so I got my sugar rush on late in the day when my energy was going.
