Bad news for all the fans in Northern CA, but it saves me a 450 mile drive & hotel bill.WonderCon, one of Comic-Con International's three annual shows, is moving to Anaheim for its 2012 event, to be held March 16 to 18.
Anyone coming to SoCal for WonderCon in 2012, let me know if you want to visit my comics vault!

I think it's pretty well-understood that you don't go to San Francisco to eat tacos (well, maybe someone from the east coast or midwest who doesn't know any better does). SF Chinese food rules, though. That's why our traditional WonderCon dinner is Chinese, not tacos......atomic99 wrote:It is probably a skip year for me then. But if I did go, I'd take you up on that, Bob, but only if you serve tacos! Some ONE on another news site was claiming that SoCal's tacos were better than NorCal's!! (Smirk!!)
PS: While I don't personally make the best tacos (I leave that to the Mexican restaurants), I would hold my guacamole up against anyone's.......

I guess it all depends on how well it is attended in the southland. If the numbers are higher then it was in the north I would think they might be tempted to keep it in the south.BobBretall wrote:It sounds like a one-time move because of renovations/construction at the Moscone center.....Webhead wrote:Hopefully this is just a one time thing. Even though I have not been able to got to WonderCon last year I do not want to see it move to So.Cal permanently.

It sold out last year at the Moscone, so I think it's a pretty fair bet they'll be back there in 2013 when they can secure space at the Moscone again.Webhead wrote:I guess it all depends on how well it is attended in the southland. What it MIGHT do, though, is give the Comic-Con International people the data point they need to create a 3rd con in Anaheim of their own, to ADD to SDCC and WonderCon. Maybe staggering it later in the con season (like September).
WonderCon - NorCal in Mar/Apr
SDCC - San Diego in July
TBD-Con - Anaheim/LA in September
Tickets are available. I got three day passes for my wife and myself. Not sure about going all three days but figured just to be safe, I would grab them. The pricing is interesting:
3 day : $40
Friday: $20
Saturday: $20
Sunday: $10
So if you can't go Friday (and the hours are rough as it is Friday Afternoon until only 7pm), it is actually cheaper to get a Saturday and a Sunday badge separately.
If it is like other Southern California cons, and you can only do 1 day, I would still say go for Saturday. Pros/Cons of Saturday - More expensive and busier, but usually better attendance by artist alley and professionals. Pros/Cons of Sunday - often times artist bail after Saturday but cheaper on Sunday, less people and some exhibitors have good sales (but I think you can get good deals online). Friday is also a fun day but sometimes artists don't go but it is usually less crowded than Saturday. Bob, (or the other local con vets) please jump in and add your thoughts.
I was able to print my tickets so no waiting around for confirmations. This will be my first Wonder-Con. SDCC and Wonder-Con, already getting tickets for next year's stuff. Still deliberating C2E2 but it might be too much.

I'm guessing Friday will be lightly attended. People in LA don't like to deal with the traffic + take the day off to go on Friday. I've also seen Fridays that have very few pros attending as they have the same feelings about driving down to Anaheim for a few hours in Friday traffic.LA Rabbit wrote: Bob, (or the other local con vets) please jump in and add your thoughts.
Saturday will be the big day. Sunday is a great day to get deals from vendors if you want to buy stuff.
