This is the place to discuss the episodes of the Comic Book Page podcast, the Comic Book Page website or pretty much anything else of interest to the Comic Book Page community...

The Green Lantern and Batman books are DC's most successful franchises, heck, they are probably two of the most successful franchises in comics over the past few years. (I would rank Avengers, Batman, and Green Lantern as the top three comic book franchises) While New DC is about making change and creating new jumping on points, they are not stupid either to kill all the momentum that they have had on their most successful books. I suspect that the changes in Batman will not disrupt Morrison's long-term story.

You may as well paint a bullseye on my forehead for the target of this relaunch as I currently only getting 2 DC (non Vertigo) titles but I am definitely going to "jump on" a bunch of the new #1's. I haven't decided exactly which titles I will be adding but I guarantee it will be WAY more than my current commitment.

Okay, finally jumping in this topic.

I am not a DC guy. Never have been. Yes, I buy a couple issues a month, mainly GL ... and Batman occasionally, but for the most part I avoid DC. This is not a knock on them currently, as much as a knock on them when I was first buying comics.

DC heroes always seemed 'out of touch' to me. They were always way too powerful (No limits), then lived in fictional locales (where is Metropolis) and their nemesis (nemesi ?) were always to simplistic (world conqueror). This may not be an accurate description of DC, it is just my take on them when I was younger.

This thought process, this feeling, as wrong or misguided as it may seem, is why I always gravitated away from DC and to MARVEL. I 'felt' closer to MARVEL's heroes ... and villains, because they seemed more grounded. More human. More flawed.

There are, however, TONS of DC characters that I wanted to try and enjoy over the years, after I got older, but trying to read them always left me feeling like I was missing something.

For example, I didn't feel that "Oh crap!" moment you get when you turn the page and find that arch enemy of your beloved hero standing there in the doorway after being gone for years. I always hated that 'missed feeling'. I just wasn't in the loop.

What DC has done with this announcement has made me, a true MARVEL guy, want to try a bunch of DC books. I can get in on the ground floor? Really? Hmmmm.

I already have circled, out of the fourteen or fifteen currently known titles, ten that I know I will be trying the first 2 issues. TEN ... and there are still more to be announced.

I know ten does not sound like much, but I only buy about 25 comics a month (21 or so MARVEL, 2 DC and about 2 or 3 others). The fact that DC has me wanting to almost double that, already, is great news for them.

This is only part of what makes this a success for DC, getting current non-DC readers to their books (with the other part being gaining new readers period), but this is a big step in the right direction for them.

I applaud the effort and shall now stop my incoherent rant.

It should be no surprise to anyone that John will be buying every single one of the new #1s.......

BUT I am going to get all the #1s also...... John & I will do a series of special episodes covering all the #1s in September as they come out....

Note: I will be ordering ALL the #1s, but not all the #2 issues (I'll certainly order some, based on creative teams, etc.). It will be up to DC to win me over and get me to come back for the #2 issues of those issues where I'm on the fence.

That is awesome news. I look foward to these special episodes. It might be worth doing a special podcast on flashpoint (and various tie ins) because this mini leads into the new DC. Maybe one or two special episodes.

We now know close to half of the line up of the 52 DC 2.0 titles. I figured I'd toss out the list I came up with of some of the "obvious" possible titles we might seen in the rest of the line up:

Action Comics
Adam Strange
Adventure Comics
Amethyst
Arion
Atom
Batgirl
Black Canary
Blue Beetle
Booster Gold
Brave and the Bold
Catwoman
Challengers of the Unknown
Checkmate
Doctor Fate
Doom Patrol
Freedom Fighters
Hawk and Dove
Huntress
Infinity Inc
Justice Society
Kid Flash
L.E.G.I.O.N.
Legion of Super-Heroes
Manhunter
Metal Men
Metamorpho
Mister Miracle
Mystery in Space
New Gods
Nighwing
OMAC
Omega Men
Outsiders
Plastic Man
Power Girl
Power of SHAZAM!
Question
Red Robin
Secret Origins
Seven Soldiers
Showcase
Spectre
Starman
Steel
Suicide Squad
Superboy
Supergirl
Swamp Thing
Time Masters/Rip Hunter
Titans
Vigilante
Warlord
World's Finest Comics

As this list is 54 items long, obviously not all of them will be picked. These just seems like some of the more durable titles/properties over at DC.

John, I hope you are not giving DC any ideas with some of those. I am already planning to give waaaay too many DC comics a try with this 'new' era and I see some on your list that I know I could not resist.

Action Comics
Adam Strange
Adventure Comics
Amethyst
Arion
Atom
Batgirl - getting this because Gail
Black Canary
Blue Beetle
Booster Gold
Brave and the Bold
Catwoman
Challengers of the Unknown
Checkmate
Doctor Fate - and I hate magic, usually
Doom Patrol
Freedom Fighters - liked the mini
Hawk and Dove
Huntress
Infinity Inc
Justice Society
Kid Flash
L.E.G.I.O.N.
Legion of Super-Heroes
Manhunter
Metal Men
Metamorpho
Mister Miracle
Mystery in Space
New Gods
Nightwing
OMAC
Omega Men
Outsiders
Plastic Man
Power Girl
Power of SHAZAM!
Question
Red Robin
Secret Origins
Seven Soldiers
Showcase
Spectre
Starman
Steel
Suicide Squad
Superboy
Supergirl
Swamp Thing
Time Masters/Rip Hunter
Titans
Vigilante
Warlord
World's Finest Comics

The good news, with the DC blog post today, it looks as though DC will have about 45 Batman titles so that will save me some money. Sure, I am getting BATMAN and DETECTIVE, but after that ...

(Man I can't believe I am so stoked about this thing)

One title I would guess we'll be seeing is Static Shock. That was another series that they solicited, but probably delayed because of the relaunch.

I've added the three other Batman family titles (Batwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws and Nightwing) to my list. Subtracting out Superman and Teen Titans which haven't been properly announced puts me at the 26 titles.

Interesting that they have announced half the titles a week before the June 13th date mentioned as the release of this information.

So far, the looks to be little more than the usual shuffling of titles and creators. While interesting, only Batwing and Mister Terrific struck me as somewhat unexpected.

So far I am interested in the following titles:

Justice League
Aquaman
Fury of Firestorm
Captain Atom
Green Lantern*
Green Lantern Corps*
Green Lantern: The New Guardians*
Batman and Robin*
Batman: The Dark Knight*
Batman*
Detective Comics*
Batgirl
Nightwing

The * means that I am on the fence about even picking up the #1. While some of these sound good, some really don't appeal to me at all, which is the great thing about choices.

I personally find it interesting that of all the Batman proper books (starring Bruce Wayne), I am on the fence about all of them. I normally really enjoy this character, but I guess that none of the pitches really appeal to me yet. We'll see how many of the rest of the 26 titles I like, then look at my budget, and make my final decision. Really hoping that my personal budget is not going to prevent me from picking up too many of the ones that I really would like to get.

If that does happen, then I will select one Batman Title and one Green Lantern title, and go from there. But deciding on which one will, be the issue.

These have non-Caucasian lead characters. DC did say they wanted to be more diverse in the "new DC", historically the heroes have been predominantly Caucasian, so I'd be expecting them to be mixing it up and going with the unexpected in the name of diversity.

The curious part will be whether people buy these.

That part didn't even occur to me. I was thinking more in terms of Batwing being a fairly new and untested character and Mister Terrific never having had even a miniseries under his on name.

So far, there just isn't much that is really off the beaten path.

Have covers been posted for the first issues of Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern: The New Guardians and/or Red Lanterns? I haven't seen them so a link would be appreciated if one is available.
