Mayhem! - Here is another one I got on a whim because there was so much hype about and I thought it sucked. I liked Tone's art work but this book sucked. I was bored out of mind, thought the writing was lame and I disliked the pacing. Plus Tyrese Gibson isn't star power enough to get me to read any more.

Edit - I just read this and laughed my (bleep) off.

The Marvels Project #1 (Marvel) - A really great look at the early years of Marvel's history. I love the little plot lines Brubaker is weaving into the fabric of Marvel.

Just goes to show how everyone has different tastes/opinions:

Mayhem! - I really liked this book. Typical revenge story with LOTS of violence (which will certainly keep it off John's list of faves), but I liked the action myself, and I'm interested to see what the history of the main character is that set him on the path of revenge against "Mr. X". The reveal with Felicia at the end also intrigued me and has me wanting to come back for the rest of the series.

Iron Man: Armor Wars #1 (Marvel) - This seems to me to be a series that does NOT need to be told. It does not seem to be set in current Marvel continuity, is rehashing a story that has been told before on more than one occasion, and the art is really not to my liking either. I'm dropping this series, no #2 for me.

Starstruck #1 (IDW) - The art (by Kaluta) in this book is a visual feast. I remember this series from the past (I think it was put out under Marvel's Epic imprint). Story is a bit complex, but I was washed away by the art. On the other hand, the second feature of "Galactic Girl Guides" was great fun! I loved it more than the main story! Anyway, not sure how I missed this one in Previews, but it's been added to my pull list.

Ultimate Spider-man Comics #1 - I heard a lot of people saying how much they hate the artwork (including Bob). Once I got past the cover I was pleasantly surprised and I really enjoyed the story. I am glad I checked it out and I liked it slightly better than Ultimate Avengers.

Ultimate Avengers Comics #1
- Also quite entertaining with a nice cliffhanger. Solid story and art.

Greek Street #1
- Not sure I understood everything but it was well worth the price and I enjoyed it. I will definitely be picking up the first trade.

Yeah, I think I'll go to the comic shop and buy that. You guys are giving it the green light, so, even though I was going to be done with the Ultimate line....I guess I'll give it another shot.

I picked up Ultimate Avengers Comics 1 and I liked it. I really like Pacheco's take on Hawkeye, but what's with the bullseye on his forehead? I notice Daredevil in the background on the back cover, hopefully we'll see more of him in the Ultimate Universe! Who is the guy with the Samurai Swords, behind The Thing? The sleazy, alcoholic Tony Stark is nice to see. I can see Millar taking him to new depths. The book felt like a thrill-ride action film, which I liked a lot. Good old fun comics, and I will add this title to my pull list.

Dominic Fortune #1 (Marvel MAX) - I like Chaykin a lot more when he's working on his own creations and also doing stuff with a more adult bent to it. Here he returns to his Marvel swashbuckler and it's all good fun & naked girls.

Grimjack: The Manx Cat #1 (IDW) - If you loved Grimjack back when he was comic out from First comics, here's more to love by the original creative team! I really liked this story, a time machine trip back to some great comics from the first really credible wave of alternate comics publishers. Adventure & intrigue in Cynosure, the pan-dimensional city that Grimjack inhabits.

Escape from Wonderland #1 (Zenoscope) - A standard Zenoscope comic, which is to say, a book that seems to exist so that overly endowed babes can wander though various stories in books with multiple covers adorned with cheesecake art of the aformentioned babes. I can safely skip the rest of this series.

Totally agree on this series. I picked up number 1 just to try it and quickly added 2 and 3 to my order after reading it.

Fall Out Toy Works #1 (Image) - A down and out robotic toymaker is contacted by a rich billionaire to make the perfect robotic female for him to love. The story is set in a Blade Runner style world where robotic technology has advance greatly, but is not at the point yet were robots can perfectly mimic humans.

The art was the draw for me when I saw it in previews and it still holds up. The work takes on a animation cell style mixed with a Blade Runner background. I was surprised how nicely put together the story is. There is a great bit about how future lawyers behave that I thought was novel. Anyway if your in the mood for a blend of Blade Runner, Pinocchio, Clock Work Girl, and Sky Doll give it a try.

Superman: Secret Origin #1 (DC) - This was just fabulous. Geoff Johns gives an explanation of WHY Clark started wearing glasses. Sure, it's a retelling of a story I've seen done a number of times before, but I loved this. Also, I'm a total sucker for how Gark Frank draws Superman looking like Christopher Reeve.

One of my favorite books from Geoff Johns and that says a lot. My eight year old daughter read it as well and liked it. It is a great comic book that you can give to anyone to read.

Vampirella: Second Coming #1 (Image) I came into this book with low expectations and the lure of a cheap price, and I leave pretty much satisfied. I have never read a Vampirella story so I have no idea what the series is usually about. However, the story was compelling enough to keep me going with the series. I am not sure if I would be sticking around if the book cost $3.99, but for what it is the price is just right for me to keep going.

I agree. Decent story/art and the $1.99 price point will keep me coming back.

Chronicles of Wormwood - The Last Battle #1 - Ok, I love me some wormwood and Garth's story seems like it is off to a good start. But damn, I do not like the art. Oscar Jimenz isn't good. He's style is too much for me. I hated him on the Gravel book and now I'm hating him on Wormwood. But I'm in for the run!
