Sorry you didn't enjoy it Chris, but you at least are in good company. I personally loved it, and found it a bold and grand experiment. If folks have a problem with said experiment happening in a big DC event book, I totally get that, I really do.Webhead wrote:Put me down as
4) I disliked this whole series, and the last issue couldn't turn me around.
I've held my tongue till this series was over. I kept hoping it would get better. I kept telling myself that once all the issues were done it would make sense. I told people that it will read better in a trade ...BOY WAS I WRONG.
Funny thing I can tell you about individual parts and why I like them but the story telling was terrible. I think that if anybody else had written this story we would be praising it.
Someone at my LCS who is a big DC fan said that the story telling reminding him of when a little kid is excited about something that happened to them and is trying to tell you the story. You get bits and pieces but their is no connection between them, much like the scene in LOST were Hurley tries to explain to his mom what happened on the island. This is how FC read to me and to a lot of other people.
In the Newarama interview Morrison said:
"Final Crisis is an attempt to predict how ‘channel-zapping’ techniques might develop as the Fifth World of the Information Age of Obama gets underway and begins to define itself in opposition to the previous generation’s ‘rules’. Another big DC fan at my LCS said "the reason people channel-zapping is that they cannot find anything good on TV.
I have read a lot of people's posts defending FC by saying that it is the subtext that makes this a great story. But the story on the surface needs to be a least good enough for people to want to read it again for pleasure not to read it to try and understand what they just read. Watchmen is a perfect example how this done correctly. If you read Watchmen only once you get a good murder/mystery story, not the best murder/mystery story ever written but a good enough to want to reread. Once you start to reread the story you start to discover the subtext. The more you reread it the more you discover.... but you have to likes the story enough to want to reread it. A lot of people are rereading this not to discover the hidden subtext but to try to understand it.

I would have felt better about this if it was an Elseworlds title.

I originally gave it a 3.5 in an earlier post, but after re-read the last issue, I actually give it a 3. There were some brilliant stuff in the book, but overall I thought the plot movement and character development to be very weak. There were plot elements that pretty much stayed static for issues.
I am normally a huge Morrison fan (he can do no wrong in my eyes), but this book was not his best work. It screams "re-written by editorial" to me.

"Apart from that, my simple goal was to reach the end without too much hassle and/or interference! Apart from one scene at the end, which I included at DC’s request, and contrary to online rumours, there were no rewrites on Final Crisis. Every word is mine. The guilt and the glory are all mine!"

Hey guys.
I love DC and have been with them since way back.
I have to say that I am a bit lost by Final Crisis and I wanted to see if anyone could explain it to me. I picked up every issue but I feel like i stepped into the middle of a conversation that I'm supposed to be following. I really want to understand this arc.

Guys, care to put up an "Idiot's Guide to Final Crisis"??
It's a dense series, packed with a lot of ideas [some fleshed out, many just hinted at], not sure it lends itself to a quick elevator pitch. If it did, chances are more than 10%-20% of us would've enjoyed it.BobBretall wrote:Wood & Koete are the guys who seem to have understood this series.martheus wrote:Hey guys.

I'm not trying to bash the book and I hope my questions are not seen as that. I really want to know where all of this propels the DCU.
I guess the thing that I am most confused about in the last issue, the relevance of Wally and Barry outracing the black racer.
I know Wally raced him before. But what does this have to do with Final Crisis? Is it because Barry was out racing death in order to help?
Were all of the earths affected by the antilife equation? How?
Are there 3 stories being told?
One story is from Lois Lane's point of view after final crisis.
One story from Supergirl's point of view as she tells it to the children.
One story following present continuity.
Does this mean that Bruce Wayne is not dead?
If not, how?
I hate feeling like a comic book noob as long as I have been reading DC. Hope I'm not coming off as such.

I'm not sure I want an "elevator pitch" or even something that will necessarily fit in a forum post. However, I' assuming that there will be folks doing lengthy dissertations on FC, maybe devoting whole podcasts to it, or even whole web-sites.Wood wrote:It's a dense series, packed with a lot of ideas [some fleshed out, many just hinted at], not sure it lends itself to a quick elevator pitch. So, if you come across any good ones, point them out to us. What I'm really looking for are more objective explanation & analysis as opposed to people fawning over what a genius Morrison is in genera.
Sure, I'll look out for it. I would like to think my comments on our show have been balanced, I certainly haven't loved everything Grant has done and have discussed where I think the book miss stepped, despite very much enjoying it overall.BobBretall wrote:I'm not sure I want an "elevator pitch" or even something that will necessarily fit in a forum post. I think simulated stereo did a nice writeup of the series on both our forum and a few other spots [I think he cross posted at CGS and Around Comics, too].
I don't often read online reviews or synopses for books, but I'm curious to see what people have to say on this one given the lightning rod is appears to be.
Wally and Barry outraced the Black Racer, leading him to Darkseid and bringing about the death of Darkseid's physical form. Also, I'm pretty sure the bullet Darkseid fired is the one that goes back in time and kills Orion and is able to travel back in time due to the speed the Flashes are going at.martheus wrote: I guess the thing that I am most confused about in the last issue, the relevance of Wally and Barry outracing the black racer.

In Final Crisis #7 and Superman Beyond, there are several references to a Crisis happening on other Earths. I don't think it's the same one that is the focus of Final Crisis, but rather a different Crisis on each Earth. All the Crises did occur due to Darkseid's initial fall though.martheus wrote: Were all of the earths affected by the antilife equation? How?

Yes. The biggest clue is the shadow on the wall opposite the figure on the last page; it looks just like Batman.martheus wrote: Does this mean that Bruce Wayne is not dead?
