Back Issue Spotlight: Solar

Post by Just Bill »

If a thread exists for this, I'm totally blind and cannot see it. Sorry for the duplication if that is the case.

One of my favorite episodes to date. You guys have me dying to re-read all my old Solars... heck, all my old Valiants. I haven't entered them into my database yet, so eventually they'll probably pop up on my show too, and I can't wait to dig into them again.

I remember a definite divide between hardcore Image fans and hardcore Valiant fans back in the day... some people seemed to be drawn more to the quality stories and cohesive universe qualities (valiant) while others were more interested in the flashy art (Image).

I would love to see the entire Valiant universe relaunched.

The Valiant Universe had some great concepts and titles. I really loved The Second Life of Doctor Mirage and would love to see that brought back. Hopefully now that the ownership and trademark issues have been worked out we'll start to see some of the old Valiant properties coming back as new ongoing titles.

I loved most everything from Valiant also (Dr. Mirage was one of my favorites!)

I particularly like X-O Manowar & Harbinger from the "first wave" of Valiant titles, though.

X-O Manowar was a great execution of a fairly common concept. I mean, we've seen the hi-tech armored hero a number of times but that one really stood out from the crowd.

After listening to this episode I wanted to grab Solar and start reading, but the first few issues are damn expensive. I'm hoping to find them at a con this year or find a complete run on ebay for a fair price.

Speaking of Valiant, I just received X-O: Manowar issues 1-31 in the mail yesterday from an eBay win. :P

Ah yes, X-O... that was actually my first title from Valiant... and I quickly bought up all the Valiant back issues at a premium. Money well spent though.

Sure, we've seen the armored character many times before, but how many times do you get Conan in high tech armor? Two great tastes that taste great together! :D

True. I guess I'm just surprised that they have been so few other interesting twists of the high tech armored hero over the years.

I was really surprised when they dumped the barbarian aspect of the concept when they relaunched X-O for the VH2 run. It became just other armored hero at that point.

That's exactly what I loved about it! That was a cool twist on the whole story!
