Best of the Best 2009

Post by BobBretall »

The purpose of this thread is for listeners (and John & I) to keep track of the best stuff we're seeing in comics as we read them throughout the year. This will save us from having to go back and re-think about everything when we're trying to put together the "best" part of the "year-in-review 2009" next January.

I'm thinking of skipping the "Worst" thread so we can concentrate on the positive in 2009.

Feel free to post, and just edit your original if you change your mind as new stuff comes out.

UPDATED 12/20/08

BEST OF 2009

DC:
Writing - Geoff Johns (Blackest Night, Green Lantern, Adventure, Legion of 3 Worlds and Flash Rebirth)
Art - Doug Mahnke (GL, Superman Beyond 3D, Final Crisis)
Character/Team - Dick Grayson Batman & Damian Robin
Storyline/Title - Blackest Night (this one's a no brainer)

Marvel:
Writing - Abnett & Lanning (Nova, Guardians, War of Kings)
Art - Brad Walker (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Character/Team - New Mutants (Glad to see them back!)
Storyline/Title - Fantastic Four "Solve Everything" (An amazing debut for Jonathan Hickman)

Indie:
Writing - Luna Bros. (The Sword)
Art - Amy Reeder Hadley (Madame Xanadu)
Character/Team - Dave Sim (Cerebus Archives -- yes, he is a "character" in it!)
Storyline/Title - Asterios Polyp

I know you're trying to be positive, but "Worst of..." lists are always fun.
1. The overuse of Norman Osbourne
2. Detective 853 (Neil Gaiman 2001 Space Baby Batman)
3. The apparent cancellation of The Twelve at issue 8
4. The end of Millar and Hitch's run on Fantastic 4

Since Geoff Johns is also kicking (bleep) on Blackest Night & Adventure comics, I think he edges ahead of the others.
