Weekly Spotlight #66

A few comments:

I think I enjoyed Detective Comics #850 a little bit more than the both of you, but I think the points that you both bought up were valid. While I have enjoyed Paul Dini's run, I wish they were more connected than they were. I also think the lack of continuity between books is a big weakness at DC right now. It seems that they are behaving more like Marvel was years ago with Quesada first took over and there were no continuity between the titles. I think Didio has recognized that as he recently made the comment that going forward there will be "one" Joker.

Amazing Spider-man 577 - I really am loving the stories after BND. This is truly a great Spider-man run without having a regular writer or artist. I think Steve Wacker should get a lot of the credit for putting out a great book three times a month. If you are going to do a "weekly" book, this is how you do it. I didn't mind the Paolo Rivera art, in fact, by the end of the book, I really thought it fit the story pretty well. I did love the way the Punisher was used in the story and agree that this is one of the best uses of Punisher in a Marvel super-hero book in a long-time. Reminds me of the 80s Punisher stories.

Black Terror #1 - I haven't read that yet.

My average haul per week is 12 to 16 comics. With that, I can actually read some of these hardcovers I purchases over the past year that I never had time to read :)

Love the new feature where price is discussed. Mostly because y'all don't just throw your hands up (not that anyoune would be able to tell if you were) and pout about the $3.99 price point. Bob and John are breaking it down to page-price. And going one step further to determine if this page-price is warranted compared to other comics.

If $3.99 is to be standard. Let's put pressure on the creators to give us art and story that reflects that price-point. If it is necessary for our montly pile to thin out due to higher prices and a tighter budget, let's make sure we're getting our money's worth. Generally people are going to continue to spend the same allotted monthly funds for comics. If Marvel and DC in turn need to eliminate some of the dead weight from their lineup of titles, so be it. I think we could do without 10-15 X-Men titles.

As was mentioned in a previous episode. The price of comics, over the last twenty years, ranks fairly evenly with the cost of a movie ticket. But with comics, I never have to worry about some godless seat-kicker sitting behind me when I'm enjoying them. Comics Rule!

I'm with the guys here on ASM 577. I don't buy ASM but picked this one up for you know who and I really enjoyed it. Like John said, it is a good one and done and that is excatly what I needed. And I'm with Bob, Paolo's pencil work on this was not very good. I enjoy his painted art a lot and wished this book was like that. Overall, a fun read!!
