Dave Sim's glamourpuss sales

Post by ctowner1 »

So "glamourpuss" sales dropped 50% from issue #1 to issue #2, but only 16% from issue #2 to issue #3. I'm wondering how this compares to recent indie books by Terry Moore (Echo) and Jeff Smith (Rasl)? Those both started around the same level as glamourpuss, but I think Echo had a very small drop from issue #1 to #2 (haven't seen the Rasl sales info).

And how does the trend (50% drop then 16% drop) compare to new comics in general? Clearly the initial 50% drop is of concern. But losing only 16% on the next go around? Is that cause for hope?

In any event, it's cause enough for Dave to commit to doing gp #4. So it's definitely good news on that level.

The average drop from the first to second issue is usually around 22% or so with the drop on the third issue averaging around 12%.

So the drop on Glamourpuss #2 was fairly sharp but the drop with #3 isn't that much worse than average. The next few issues should give us a better idea how many people are likely to stick with it over the long term.

That's assuming there IS a "next few issues." Dave was considering stopping after issue 3, had the orders been sufficiently low.

Thanks for the info, John (and happy birthday!).

Also, do your studies show any consistent trends with respect to 4th and 5th issues? Or is issue 3 usually the big leveling out issue which gives you a pretty reasonable guess as to how the book will perform regularly?
