DC Infinite Halloween one-shot....

Post by BobBretall »

13 stories.....

This sucked 13 flavors of a$$. God, I can't even start to describe how terrible this was from start to finish. And for $5.99? I wish they had a money back guarantee on this one.

This was such a turkey, it should be the Infinite Thanksgiving special.

Not exactly a glowing review there, Bob. I haven't gotten it yet. It looks like it will be in my next DCBS shipment.

Weird. I wonder if DCBS got shorted, because it was in my DCBS box that came this week.

I'll be curious as to what you think of it......

I was ranting at dinner yesterday about how bad it was to Stephen (I told him I didn't put it in his "to read" pile as a kindness).

Greg then said, "if it was lame, did they have a hero fighting a giant pumpkin?"

Sadly, I had to answer "Yes, they did".

I'd complain about that being a spoiler but I have go with the "hero fights giant pumpkin as something of a given.

Maybe you should put it in Greg's "to read" pile...

I have to admit that I usually have fairly low expectations for these sorts of holiday specials. And the $5.99 cover price is harsh.

I'll read it once I get my copy on Monday.

Ah, but I specified neither the specific hero, nor if the pumpkin was carved Jack-o-lantern style, and, if so, if it was a sad, scary, or happy jack-o-lantern.

So, plenty of surprise to still be had in the suck-fest which was the Infinite Halloween special.

Very true. There are tons of possibilities to be had here.

I got mine this Friday. I agree with Bob, the writing was really bad. I can't believe that they had so many good artists working on such a bad book. I am so glad that I didn't pay full price for this.

I read this last night. I didn't think it was great but there were a few things that weren't completely horrible.

The framing sequence in Arkham was mildly interesting but I couldn't tell who a few of the characters were or why some were in there. For instance, isn't the Riddler a "good guy" now?

The issue started off a weak and got worse as it went. So while it wasn't completely horrible, it came fairly close.

I really enjoyed this book, but then again I'm a huge Bernard Chang fan and seeing Abnett & Lanning back on Resurrection Man, new Kelley Jones Batman artwork, and having a certain character who had been Vertigo-ized recently make his return to the DCU had me kind of giddy.

I enjoyed the Resurrection Man series and thought the story here was okay but it did nothing to get a reader interested enough in the character to seek out the series. Heck, off the top of my head I'm not even sure if the character was mentioned by name in the story.

You have a good point about the return to the DCU of the Vertigo-ized character. But I'd feel better about it if there was any indication that the special was in continuity. The appearance of two fo the people in Arkham who clearly shouldn't be there indicates that this comic was either set in the past or more likely simply take place out of continuity. (Or maybe some other Earth or in Hypertime... )

Geez! That's who that was!

I read the RM series (long ago) and totally did not make the connection when reading this book.

As an aside, I think it was the horrible villains/Arkham framing sequence that really put me in a bad mood about the whole thing, as it was totally out of continuity. What were Penguin?Riddler even doing in Arkham, for instance, based on how they are being used in current Bat-continuity?

I have to agree that the framing sequence was weak. There were one or two characters I didn't recognize and you are totally right that neither Penguin or Riddler should have been in there.

I'd be okay with the lack of continuity if the stories were brilliant. But they weren't.
