Finally finished getting somewhat decent pics of art I picked up at Austin Comic-Con (WWTX) that happened Nov 11-13, AND finally got some pics of some art I bought at SDCC. Only 4 months late!

Austin Comic-Con

Teen Titans page by Nicola Scott and Doug Hazlewood:

I've always wanted some Nicola Scott art, but she is in Australia and never brings her stuff to SDCC. Turns out Doug Hazlewood lives south of Houston. Completely lucky.

Image

Flash page by Angel Unzueta and Doug Hazlewood:

I picked this up randomly because of the image in the first panel, which is of that first JLA encounter with Starro.

Image

Galactus Commission by Tom Nguyen:

Tom is a semi-regular inker for Doug Mahnke.

Image

and the major coups for me from Austin:

JLI Retroactive page by Kevin Maguire:

Was thrilled to meet Kevin Maguire. Spent about 30 min at his table chatting -- very nice guy.

Image

AND a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle Commission by Mr. Maguire:

Excited to put this on the wall eventually.

Image

SDCC 2011

I picked up a couple of pages from Anthony Snyder at the show. My first vintage purchases from a dealer.

Marvel Lost Generation page by John Byrne:

Ok, it's not an X-men page, and it's not from the 80s or even early 90s, but hey, it's a BYRNE page! And it's in my collection! Woohoo! Byrne was my favorite artist as a kid, so getting my first Byrne page was a highlight.

Image

Fury/Wolverine page by Howard Chaykin:

Yes, it's not American Flagg, but it's got lots of Chaykin goodness.

In response to the news that a page of his Uncanny X-Men, from the Death Of Phoenix issue, sold for $65,000 John Byrne pointed out:
That’s more than three complete issues, pencils, inks, script, that the buyer could have commissioned me to do. Original. Just for him/her.

If that were circa 1985 Byrne talking it would be an amazing deal.

Or if byrne could guarantee any one of those issues would be part of an influential run that affects how comic book stories are told and spawns a billion dollar movie franchise plus influences an entire generation of comics fans. Then it would be a deal.

Here's another Firestorm page I got from Heritage, this one by Rafael Kayanan, Fury of Firestorm #26 p16:

I also have the vellum surprint page with the floating Martin Stein head, but skipped including it here to show the art better. I really like this one because I always liked the relationship Ronnie had with Firehawk, and this is a great example of that.

Christmas present from the wife, purchased from Anthony's Comic Book Art.

Superman #56 p.13 by Ed Hannigan, I've got it up on the wall already, so photographed at an angle to reduce the glare:

Already ordered and submitted.

Also don't forget to mention Juan Castro is selling some of his inked pages for 1/2 off. Lots of stuff from Micronauts to Snake Eyes to Incorrup...well, I believe I just snagged the Incorruptible page I wanted. Bwah ha ha!!!

Still, hell of a great deal from The Interior Pages. Lots of great stuff left.

Thanks for the plug big guy!! Yes, Juan is running a sale, 40-50% all his pages. And Nick Pitarra is taking commission orders. And I'm working on a couple more deals too!!

I picked up an 11x14 Ethan vanSciver design sketch used for the Green Lantern/Sinestro bookends (shown below). I love vanSciver's work on GL, especially his introduction of the "floating GL symbol" over GL's chest, so I'm very happy to own this piece.

Image

Would have been nice if they'd have used the big hand from Ethan's sketch in the production statue.......
