San Diego Comic Con 2008 - Show report.....

Post by BobBretall »

I'm home now & sorting thru the haul....I'll get some pictures & more report up later on or tomorrow....

Today was INSANE on the show floor! It was the most crowded I've ever seen it today. I think everyone was up in panels on Fri/Sat (there were HUGE lines for most panels I attended) and everyone seems to have decided to all hit the dealer's room today, since the panels sucked.

I could barely get at any of the dealer booths, commerce was in full flower today!

I'm glad I made most of my purchases early (on Previews night & on Thursday). There were a few "blow out sales" today, but given the volume of people shopping, there were not as many as I have seen in the past.

More later....

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences Bob.

I must say I had expected two episodes of CBP and instead got two episodes of Krytographik. That would be great if I didn't already listen to those episodes in their original feed.

Get back to work! :)

Here are the sketches I got at the show:

A trio from Dave Wachter. A Red Sonja I commissioned him to do, an Iron Man he had on his table that looked so cool I had to buy it, and a sketch he whipped out on the comic I bought from him:

These are sketch cards I got from the Bushi Tales guys!

Dave Beaty:

And a Jetta I got from Antone Wade (who does "Jetta", of course):

I have one more thing, a really cool Conan/Red Sonja sketch by Ernie Chan that I have not scanned in yet, I'll put it up tomorrow....

Here are some shots from the "Big Bang Theory" Panel. I love this show, one of the funniest things on the air....

I also enjoy the Big Bang Theory. A lot of people find it pandering, but I have to wonder if they gave it more than one episode. I have laughed at every episode, and some of them are quite inspired. I even go back and forth on whether or not I would purchase a DVD if that time came.

I enjoyed seeing all your pics, Bob. Beautiful sketches, and I think this year convinced my wife more than ever that we both need to make our way to SDCC soon.

Walking the Con floor on Sunday (desperately trying to cover aisles I had totally missed in the previous 4 days) I came upon Ernie Chan.

Ernie was one of my absolute favorite artists on Savage Sword of Conan when I was growing up, and I stopped to chat with him and let him know how much I had enjoyed his art over the years. He had 5 or 6 Itoya portfolios FULL of art. Wonderful to behold, he's something like 68 and he's still "got it".

I ended up buying the piece below. Conan AND Red Sonja, and colored too!

You can see (or buy!) lots of Ernie's art at his web-site. Thanks to Tim Rakrich for pointing this site out to me!

Some more pictures!

Me & a really happy Steve Bryant (Athena Voltaire & Ursula Wilde)!
Image

Me & Julian Lytle (Chris Murrin is in the background, on the right)
Image

Lin Workman & Dave Beaty in front of their super-cool Bushi Tales display!
Image

Me & Antone Wade (Jetta). The happiness I evoke in Steve Bryant comes out in Antone as a really weird expression......
Image

John & Antone (sure, JOHN gets a smile out of him....) Antone has his sample packet that he's going to give to Marc Silvestri!

Here are all the toys & mini-busts that I picked up in San Diego. Some are show exclusives, some are just things that I got at some pretty good prices:
