Usagi Yojimbo exhibit @ Japanese American Nat'l Museum

Post by BobBretall »

I finally went to the Usagi Yojimbo exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in downtown LA today. I'd been dragging my feet since July & wanted to get to this before it closes on October 30th.

Any fan of Usagi in SoCal should try to make it to the exhibit over the next 2 weeks if you've not gone already.

Here are some photos from today:

Here are some early concept sketches of Usagi & other characters:

There was a set of parallel pages from "Return to Adachi Plain". On the top, painted by Stan Sakai, on the bottom inked by Sergio Aragones:

Here I am by the oil painting that became the cover to Usagi Yojimbo Book 4, this was the very 1st Usagi TPB that I ever bought, way back in the early 1990s:

There was a LOT of original art framed on the walls, and way more displayed in bulk, like this:

And a couple more pictures with a fawning fan in them:

Thanks for posting that Bob. It was down to the comic book page podcasts that I got hooked on Usagi Yojimbo.

That looks amazing. Wish it would come to Chicago.

It's downtown in Little Tokyo, 1st between Alameda & Central (369 E 1st St). About 1/2 block walk from the Little Tokyo stop on the Metro Gold Line.

If you go, make sure you watch the short film (it's located to the right of the doors where you enter the exhibit). It's an overview of Stan's work, with appearances by Sergio, Mark Evanier, Max Allan Collins, Scott Shaw!, and Stan Lee.

Some GREAT Japanese restaurants around there too.
