Yep, when I was in the shop last week there were several people in line with the "these are going to be worth a lot one day!" attitude. Thankfully not any kind of majority, 2 or 3 out of 30-40 people.

I am really curious about this too. I have all 52 pre-ordered from DCBS, but if I were walking into a shop weekly to buy comics, I would not buy the second issue of about half to two-thirds of these (based on reading the first week's titles, and a few of the second week so far).

No, they told us to sign up with Comixology by a certain date to be able to sell the new 52 starting with issue #1. I did and the email back from Comixology said something along the lines of "we are working on developing a system for this and will add you to the email list for updates as they become available." Here it is the 3rd week of the new 52 and I have yet to get any updates.
you need to chase them up Dan...

Son of a %&*$@. That's a whole other issue then, because I don't know about most comic shops but physically I'm at my limit and can't chase after companies.

They are going to get a nasty email from me . . .

EDIT: As you can see in my signature, I got this sorted out. I'm still pissed at Comixology and am 3 weeks behind the curve, but at least I'm catching up now.
We now have digital comics for sale. Check out our shop

I don't doubt people are doing that but a quick peek on Ebay showed plenty of copies for sale and they don't appear to be going for much over the cover price if at all.

I only checked Batgirl #1 as that seems to be one of the hotter titles.

Another HUGELY busy Wednesday at my LCS, more people than last week. Must have been 40-50 people there when they opened. I got there about 2 minutes after opening & there was a line out the door.

On one hand, it's kind of a pain to wait in line 30 minutes, on the other hand it's kind of a "con atmosphere". Lots of people standing around with handfuls of comics all talking about comics.

There have been many dozens of #1 issues from the DC relaunch going for well over cover on Ebay these past two weeks. Do a search for completed sales on "New DC 52" or similar and you'll see a bunch of them.

The real test will be the number on #4's. Stores have already made orders for issue #2 and #3. We have been doing our best to order smart and not end up drowning in unsold issues ( the killer for shops in the 90's.) So we've been asking all of our customers that have the #1's on their pulls, which series they plan to continue

Those look like high points (so to speak) rather than averages but that does illustrate just how much these books are going for. Detective Comics in particular I've seen go for $10 dozens of times.

Lots of sellouts

Post by heroesmask »

The LCS I hit in Austin has been selling out of pretty much everything. I went in last Wednesday 30 minutes after they opened and 1/2 the books were sold out. I think people are using their site's weekly pull list.

I talked to one of the owners and he said that they would have ordered more of everything. They are supposed to be getting restocks this Tuesday. I'll probably check by and see. I wanted to get Supergirl but it was gone.

They still had a few copies of Action, more copies of titles like JLI, Resurrection Man, GL, Red Lanterns, and a few others. But of the 39 titles released so far I would say they maybe had stock on 10-12 at most. This is a store that typically orders pretty solidly.

Another HUGE line at my shop this past Wed. I got there when they opened, there was a line of about 60 people.

I got all my books & asked them to hold them. I went, had lunch, came back 35 minutes later & still had a line of 10 people.

The shop was running 2 registers this week, the regular one, and a "virtual" register run by one of the guys on his iPhone, adding up the price. It made the line move faster.

I think they moved 100+ people through in the 1st hour.

The really interesting thing will be how many people are there NEXT Wednesday for the 1st week of the #2s....

At least half of the #1s were selling out completely at my store, and it seemed like most of them were being ordered in fairly large quantitites (for my store). One reason that some of them seemed to be selling out though is that multiple people were coming into the store and buying multiple copies of a bunch of them, not sure if they were buying them all for themselves or for other people.

I'm a little mixed on how I feel about it all. It's great that so many people are buying comics, but on the other hand if lots of the great issues are selling out then when a new customer comes in to buy a comic and there aren't any there, then they likely won't be coming back. Hopefully this doesn't happen to too many new readers.

If the LCS owner has a clue, he will tell someone who comes in for a sold out book:

1) We'll have 2nd prints in stock in a week or two
2) You can get them digitally, here's the URL for our store's web-site, you can buy them there and read them today!

That would be good. I've heard a couple of the workers talk about the second printings, but some of the customers look a little dejected by that, especially since the workers say they have no idea when they will be in, usually giving a vague "maybe in a month". But I have never heard them even mention that they are available digitally. Ever. I also never hear talk of digital comics, and as far as I can tell there are none of the JLA combo pack available to be bought. Are the digital books available in Canada? If not that could be why I don't hear it, if they are, then I'd say my store seems to be firmly in the anti-digital arena. Could be wrong though.
