That's great news! I was hoping that would be the case, but I wasn't counting on it. Now it gives us another month to decide what makes the cut and what doesn't. Reading the comments from the San Diego new 52 panels has increased my interest in a few books that I wasn't sure about getting past #1. Love being able to get a two month sample now.HassanT wrote:For those of you who order from DCBS, good news was posted from the twitter account.

Pretty good read. I think the biggest thing, and it was broken down to a few different questions, is just what does the DC past look like now. I really think it's contradictory to renumber Action and Detective with the theory that this will show everyone we're SERIOUS ... yet keep most of the backstory of Batman and Green Lantern.
I've decided to just wait and see what they tell us at the end of Flashpoint and the first few issues of the new titles. If it doesn't make sense THEN, then they didn't do a very good job imo.
There are words now, it must have been updated. I agree, looks great and this was already on my list, so cool.BobBretall wrote:First 4 pages of art from Aquaman #1 are up on Bleeding Cool (no words).....

None of this seems to hit on anything I REALLY care about.
I don't care if story X or story Y is in continuity.
I could care less if "Team Z" ever existed.
All these details are trifles.
The reason I got excited about this is that it felt like DC was making a big move to wipe out the burden of continuity, and start making good stories that people could easily jump in to, without having to know what has happened for the last 10 years in DC comics.
The more and more I read, the less and less I feel like DC will be making major changes to their approach to storytelling, and more and more like they are gonna do the same old thing they have always done, with a few details different to "mix it up".

"DC may want their fans to stop demanding such a strict adherence to continuity. But that negates something that fandom cherishes. From Star Trek to Anne Rice novels, continuity is the backbone of many fan communities based on fictional stories."
I lifted this quote from "question #3" and I think it sums up in general how DC is wanting to treat all these continuity questions, i.e. don't ask many.

Yes, as (I think it was Marv Wolman) said on a panel at Wonder Con this year......BadDeacon wrote:Continuity is a tricky thing.
I think that continuity works best when following the continuity adds to the story, but not being aware of it does not detract from the story.
"Shoot for consistency NOT continuity. Batman should act like Batman, but don't slavishly follow every detail in every previous story."
Something like that.
I liked the sentiment.

You know, I agree with this, but in a lot of ways I like more "involved" continuity. One of the things that made me start to like comics was that when I started reading Uncanny X-Men, there was a sense that the events that were happening were in some ways related to things that happened years ago in the comics.HassanT wrote:I agree with that sentiment.BobBretall wrote:Yes, as (I think it was Marv Wolman) said on a panel at Wonder Con this year......

It's a tricky thing though, a bit of a double edged sword. There is a fine line between continuity adding to a story, and continuity hindering a story. I can't really explain what defines this difference, it is one of those things where "I know it when I see it".
