Expanding universes is a double-edged sword

Yes, this is a big problem. There are lots of things that expand out to multiple titles and if I'm not going to get them all I'm as likely to do what you did & go in the opposite direction and get none.

I could have this reaction if they try to expand the "Stan-Lee-iverse" over at Boom! beyond the current 3 titles. OR if they add more titles to the Incorruptible/Irredeemable duo.

I already had it with "The Boys". Had Dynamite kept putting out just the main book I'd have carried along on inertia. Adding the 2nd book (Butcher mini) caused me to decide to not get them both.
I think this expansion is a double-edged sword. I am absolutely looking forward to the Butcher mini from The Boys - I got so excited when I saw that big ol' face on the inside cover of the Previews :D. But the sheer number of G.I. Joe books at IDW is preventing me from collecting any of them, even though I think I would enjoy one G.I. Joe book a month. I could certainly make room in my budget for one title, but not for all of them.

So if you're a big fan of a universe getting a new title in that universe is fantastic (damn you Kirkman and your Super Dinosaur - I wanted to write awesome instead of fantastic, but now that word is ruined for me :( ) but the sheer number of titles in a universe can keep you from collecting at all.

With my August Order I am going to be doing the same thing Bob is doing. My Goal is to get to 120 books or less.

Why? Because I cant read 250 books a month and it will allow me to catch up on some of my issues I have sitting in boxes.

Rules:

1) DC is Exempt - I do a DC podcast and it is the company that I love and feel most invested in.

2) Finish off the mini's

3) If I am at least 6 issue behind (you might be a fantastic book) you are a likely candidate to be cut

4) Books that don't ship regularly will likely get the axe

5) No new #1s unless I can really justify the purchase or take something else off the list.

This is going to be a huge challenge for me but I am really going to do this. I have only done it one other time and that did not last long.

Given the # of DC you get, if you cut 50% of your Marvel books, that will still leave no room for any Indies. If you cut 75% of your Marvel, you'll have room for ~15-20 Indies.......

I would NEVER have been able to get to 120 holding DC inviolate.

If I look at it from the perspective that I am mostly behind (not reading) all the Marvel and indies it kinda makes sense.
